I was wondering if anyone here has bypassed getting a wedding dress at a shop, and taken a style to a seamstress/tailor and had them whip one up for you? Or if you even made it yourself!
If so, i’d love to see your dresses and hear about the prcoess, did you find it good, cheaper than a official shopg gown?

My situation is a bit different because I live in West Africa, so there weren’t many other options! But I had my dress made by a local tailor. The vast majority of clothes here are tailor made; the tailor was one I’ve used before and knew he did quality work though I don’t think he’s ever made a wedding dress before.
I bought the fabric myself, looked at dresses online to print out pictures to say “the top from this but with sleeves like that” “the skirt from this” etc. I think he made it in about a month, with me trying it on once in the middle, and that gave me the chance to correct something on the back too. Then I brought it back the week before the wedding for final alterations.

A seemstress made the dress for my first wedding… marriage ended in disaster but the dress was beautiful! I still think I may like it better than my new dress which is a 15,000 Monique Lhuillier gown…. I truly loved this seemstress made dress too bad the married was awful….
