I have terrible vision and was previously told I cannot have LASIK due to thin corneas and the opthamologist had nothing he could offer me. Today I saw a different doc, one who is almost 2 hours away, but ALL the opthamologists say he is the best they know, and probably the best one in at least a couple hundred miles, and he said I am an excellent candidate for PRK. Has anyone had this? Hearing your experience would be great! Thanks!

@guitargirl: PRK… It’s the procedure they use on ppl like pilots who can’t afford to have the scarring/halos/junk that is associated with Lasik. I haven’t had it done personally, however, so unfortunately I can offer no stories. I’m not really sure why PRK hasn’t gained the popularity of Lasik despite its lack of refractive/reflective side effects, so I would definitely look into that. Why AREN’T people getting it? Perhaps the price? Perhaps there’s something else about the procedure that isn’t as ideal as you thought.
I would ask the opinion of a few other ophthalmologists/optometrists who AREN’T the doctors you’ve already spoken to (because let’s be honest, your new doc is going to try to talk you into doing it. Guy’s gotta pay his mortgage somehow.). And be very wary of online research, they’re almost never written by actual doctors. If all your in-person research comes up clear, then go for it!

I’d be interested to hear stories if anyone here has had PRK done!
