I am having a bit of an issue with my dress. Well… It’s not technically mine yet but I will most likely end up buying it since I am under a short deadline. After I found out that THE DRESS (Maggie Sottero Alandra ) for me wasn’t going to make it in time for my wedding, I looked online and found a seller through WB classifieds who has a brand new Alandra but in size 8. According to my measurements, I should be a size 12 in Maggie Sottero gowns. I know taking the dress in is pretty common but did anyone do the opposite? If so, how many sizes have you taken it out? Also, from your experience, can you tell me if I am being too optimistic thinking that a size 8 dress can be made into a size 12 with some seamstress magic? I would appreciate any advice you can give me! I have been working out and loosing about 1 lbs per week but I wouldn’t want to just depend on that… I really want to buy the dress ASAP because it’s getting pretty stressful not having a dress while the wedding being 100 days away.

Do you mind me asking which measurement puts you in a 12?
I ask because in some measurements, the answer is alterations probably will not let the dress out enough. In others you may not even need alterations. For this particular dress, If the bust and waist are a little bigger, but the hips are fine I say go for it. But it its the hips that are putting you in the 12, I would look for another dress.
Most dresses only have about one inch in the side seams to let the dress out. I would see if I could find a dress in the same cut by maggie in an 8 for you to try on to get an idea.
Hope This Helps

@dallasbride2012: I took my measurements this morning (hopefully did it right!) I am 39-31.5-42. I think you’re right that the bust and the waist wouldn’t be a problem to take out since it also has a corset back but my hips are the problem. I looked at the measurements for size 8 and they are 36-28-38.5. So I would ned 3.5 inches for the hips. Thanks for letting me know if the 1 inch allowance. Dumb question…. does that mean the max the dress could be taken out 1 inch from each side so it would be 2 inches total?
