We are figuring one slice per person (regardless of age).  Our actual wedding cake will not feed everyone.  We will have sheet cake in the back to also serve.  We’re doing this to save some money.

I wouldn’t even include the kids in the count for the size of the cake. Most won’t eat it anyway. We had cake and a candy buffet and had nothing left of the cake (for 120) and very little candy left.

Your baker will know what you should get based on what you’ve said here.

Your bakery should know but Ive heard they never do enough for everyone because not everyone eats cake. If that is your only dessert besides the candy than I would have a backup inexpensive sheet cake.

Ummm what kid doesn’t like cake?! When I told my nephews and my stepson about the wedding and that it was like a big party the first question from all  of them was “Will there be balloons and cake??” LOL! I would take cake over candy any day as a kid, or both really 😉  Our chef also packed up our leftover cake in little chinese food take out containers and had servers hand it out to guests as they were leaving closer to the end of the night which was a great idea!

@bakerella: seriously. Cake over candy as a child (and adult) any day!

Ice cream cake, maybe, but wedding cake? Nah. The kids at the wedding ate a little icing and were off to run around and dance…and grab more candy.

We didn’t have a candy buffet but a dessert buffet. We ordered cake for 80 and had 79 guests but served it all buffet style together with cookies, brownies and ice cream. There were no young children present. In the end, the entire top tier was untouched and there were about 5 pieces of uneaten cake. So, I would say you don’t need to order cake for everyone. I estimate we had about 20 slices left counting the top tier which we never planned to save.

My kids LOVE cake and candy lol!!! They are pretty indulgent and would probably eat both with no problems lol!!

Our two cakes were suppose to feed 100 total. We had around 115 and we ended up with two entire tiers of cake left!!

Either they cut it small or the bakery underestimated because most people had cake and took the stuff from the candy buffet home with them (we had boxes for them).

We originally booked 100 pieces of cake for 120 people.  We only ended up with 75 guests but kept the 100 pieces.  It seemed like a good idea but we had tons extra that we couldn’t take home (no room in fridge or freezer + honeymoon), nor could anyone else.  I would estimate the same # or less!  That seems to be the case in the last few weddings I’ve been to.  They always seem to cut too many and once they’re cut you can’t exactly take it home easily!
