deavin:  That’s awesome! All the stress of trying to plan and all of the decisions about things I didn’t care about (Wedding color, theme, napkins, blah blah blah) is what made me want to elope or keep it small and simple in the first place. The important part is the marriage and celebrating with loved ones! Best of luck with everything 🙂

We did a lunch surprise wedding 2 weeks ago. we told a couple of good friends and some family (had 20 all up including kids) that we were going to have a catchup lunch. they turned up we had wedding clothes on, and a celebrant. the look on their faces was absolutely pricesless. We did a celtic handfasting ceremony (his family is Irish) then we all had a fantastic lunch and kicked on all afternoon. Then we had invited other friends to catchup drinks after work later that day, when they turned up we had more drinks and the venue had a band playing at 8 anyway so the night kicked on! was the best decision we ever made. no stress, no worries and we are married!

you need to do whats right for the two of you and not worry about anyone else.

We went to a local park, 15 min from our house.  It was just us, the officiant and our photographer.  🙂

  • Wedding: October 2016

We’re renting an awesome house in Colorado and self-officiating our elopement so it’ll just be the two of us. Afterward we’ll go to a fancy cupcake shop then hit up an old photo booth for pictures. Our plan is to spend the long weekend hitting up restaurants, drinking wine and just being together. I can’t wait for fall!

deavin:  We are planning on a simple and intimate non tradional wedding as well. As both of our families live in different countries and we are too busy working plus going to grad school. We also don’t want to spend too much on a wedding. It will just be a simple chapel ceremony followed by dinner. (No bridal party, no cakes, no dance etc. but photography is a must for us 😄)

We’re getting married at courthouse before our symbolic ceremony & honeymoon in mexico. It’ll be just the two of us.

We might have a small backyard Halloween party to celebrate with family though. Still on the fence about that one.

We got married on a sailboat at sunset, just the two of us, plus the officiant and the captain. We bought a half dozen fancy cupcakes to share after the ceremony. We dressed up in inexpensive wedding attire and the captain took photos. After our ceremony and sail, we had a decorated pedicab take us through town to a fancy restaurant for our wedding dinner. We were in a town about 3 hours from where we live so we stayed for three days at a B&B. We had a lovely, romantic time and our ceremony was amazing. We had thought about doing a traditional wedding, because this was a second marriage for both of us and neither of us did big the first time and we both have children and thought they would want to be there. Turns out they were supportive of the marriage but not interested in attending a wedding. Other family hemmed and hawed as if attending a wedding was a big inconvenience. We figured why spend so much money on a party when no one seemed excited about it. So we did what felt right and meaningful to us and it was the best time of my life. We don’t regret it and we have beautiful memories of our special day.

deavin:  Another non-traditional bride.

We are getting married mid-week at the courthouse with just our parents. I’m not wearing all white as it is not my style. We’re going to a super fancy restaurant afterwards. And I am getting  professional hair, make-up, nails, and a spray tan. I’m also looking into elopement photography. But that’s it.  We’ll have a tiny party at our new home in the fall, nothing fancy. That’s it. 🙂
