My dress came in. First fitting she pinned the dress up and it looked great.
Second fitting I was looking forward until I put my dress on. She had taken in WAY too much (couldn’t even get the dress zipped) and one side she took in on the waist much sharper than the other side, making it look like my hip on that side was 3x bigger than my hip on the correctly done size. And there were seams that were very visible in the lining down the front of the dress (perhaps becaue it was soooo tight?).
So now I have to wait until April to see if she fixed these things…
Did anybody else have a downright bad 2nd fitting?

sorry to hear this. I am sure she will fix it. pull out your old pictures of your dress (before she messed up) and it will remind you of its beauty!

That is going to be hard to wait until April to see how it has changed, but I am sure it will get changed nicely. After my second fitting I looked in the mirror and, “WHOA!” One side of the boning was all pooched out. I looked like I was disfigured. The next time that I went in I was soooo nervous about it, but when I put it on and they asked me about it I had completely forgotten it was ever like that because it looked so much better. Hope that makes you feel better and I am sure they will fix it just fine! 🙂

Thanks for the encouragement! I know it’s just a dress, but I almost wanted to cry when I tried it on last time!

YES!! I did! They took the dress in *too much* so it was too small around my chest. They assured me that they would fix it. I have two more scheduled fittings so I’m not too worried.

My second fitting resulted in my buying another dress! But that was my fault, I had her change the dress too much and it looked too different.
I’m sure it’ll all turn out fine, but yes, it is scary to trust someone else with your dress! You’ll be ok!

I did. She was supposed to hem my dress so it would just skim the floor. It was like, three-four inches longer than that~!! I couldn’t get it fixed before the wedding, so my dress got super dirty 🙁 Also she didn’t show me how to bustle it correctly/put them in spots that made sense, so it took about twenty minutes to bustle.
I’m going to go have it fixed after it’s dry cleaned. (Defeats the point but will make me feel better.)

I am so sorry you had a bad experience. At my second fitting, my seamstress took my dress out to much, so it was loose in the bust and today when I went to pick it up, it was to tight and we couldn’t get it done up. She also forgot to put the privacy lace in the bust area, but she fixed it right then and there, so it turned out all good. I would highly recommend her. She has done an awesome job. I am sure your seamstress will pleasantly surprise you too 🙂

I had a bad second fitting. They hemmed my dress 3-4 inches too short! I was so mad, I couldn’t say anything to them or I’d end up yelling at them. I just left the shop and talked with my mom. My mom talked with the shop owner. They fixed my dress, and now it is ok.

@abbyful: I’m so glad you asked this question! I had my 1st fitting last week and my seamstress actually warned me that it would be rough the next time in, but the time after that would be perfect. I was surprised to get that disclaimer up front, but after reading this post it seems more common that the 2nd fitting is a ‘rough’ one. Thanks 🙂
