I believe (and I may be wrong, so I apologize if I am) that @LuvMySailor is delivering at a military base/post (possibly overseas?). I’m also at an overseas military base and they will not let you go past 41 weeks here. Period. Dot. End of story. Unfortunately, we also can’t get second opinions. I’m 39 weeks and if I don’t have my baby by this Friday (my next appointment) they’ll schedule me for an induction the following week.

@jesstagirl:  It does certainly make things more difficult but you cannot be forced into a procedure against your will. It takes jumping through hoops but I do know moms that have gotten around things like this.

@LuvMySailor:  I don’t have further advice for you. I’m not a military bride, and I didn’t grow up in a military family. However, I grew up, and currently live, in a huge military area so I know how strict and funny they can be on certain things. Hopefully, something can be arranged.

I’m so sorry you feel like you have lost control of your birth, that is so unfair, and I hope you can take back control of it. It is rightfully yours. From what I’ve seen, birth is both a time of great vulnerability, and great strength. I really hope you get what you want from your birth.

@LuvMySailor:  I think your frustration is 100% understandable. My number one question would be though…. what happens if you have a failed induction and end up with a cesarean? At 40 weeks you would be in the hospital for 2-4 days and then go home in a state where you would need alot of help which would also greatly affect your husbands time to study and prepare. TBH he’s more likely to have more prep time you going overdue and probably having the baby after his test… OR even if you do go into labor before his test recover is MUCH easier and less will be required (so to speak) of him b/c you’ll be more able to care for yourself & the baby.

AND let me tell you, I have NEVER come across a mom that regretted leaving their doctor b/c they’re practices weren’t lined up with the evidence based desires of the mom to be… I have however talked to countless moms that regretted staying.

As my MW says, it’s only to late to leave your provider if you’ve already had the baby.

AND they cannot force you into an induction you’re not comfortable with. It’s your right as the patient to decide what treatment of care you’re willing to accept. Don’t give up your autonomy just b/c your doctors practice doesn’t “allow” that. blegh!

My SO’s sister was induced even though she wasn’t technically full term. After 24 hours they did a c section. The meds gave her a seizure. She is totally fine now but the memory of it is awful for her. She wishes she had allowed her body to go into labor on its own and only been induced if it was necessary. I think you should wait until you are overdue.

@LuvMySailor:  I feel for you :-/ It sucks. A lot of my friends don’t understand the way the military works and the different polocies involved. Maybe you’ll go into labor on your own? I’m starting to up up the sex, bounce on the yoga ball, and go for more walks. Thinking of you!
