llevinso : Ultasound weight can be off by a couple pounds, which is a big deal to a little babe.
I had weekly ultrasounds starting at 36 weeks until birth because little miss decided to flip breech! Around 38-39 weeks they estimated her to be just over 8lbs. She was born 41+1 at 7lbs14oz. Hope that makes you feel better, and congrats!

MsPlucky : I have no idea how my uterus is measuring. They didn’t say and I didn’t know that was even something to ask. They didn’t say anything looks unusual or anything for where I’m at.
ClaudiaKishi : I believe my mom said I weighed 8 lbs. 10 oz. when I was born (I was also 10 days late!). My husband wasn’t big. Just over 6 lbs. but he was born 2 weeks early.
Thanks everyone for your comments. I do definitely feel better! I know for some of you a 9 lb. baby doesn’t seem like a big deal, but I’ve been scared of birthing a really big baby ever since I found out I was pregnant. I try not to actually think about the labor part so much, but when I hear things like this, it become impossible not to think about. So when the ultrasound tech said 7 lbs…well that was not what I was hoping/expecting to hear at this point. It’s good to know that these measurements can be very off! My mom did say that usually with bigger babies they have a tendency to sleep better. So that could be a possible plus.
Of course there’s my husband over here saying if the measurements can be off by up to 2 lbs. that means he could already weigh 9! He likes to see me terrified :/

llevinso : Oh, they measure mine at every appointment. Take a tape measure, go from your pelvis bone to the top of your uterus. That’s fundal height. Should be +/- 2 cm from your week.
So, 34-38 cm for 36 weeks.
This last week was my first week measuring higher than my week, and our little guy has been measuring 2-3 weeks ahead on their ultrasound guesstimates. So maybe he’s really not *that* big.

I have mine on Thursday. I had a big baby last time (9 lbs 2 oz born at 37 and 5) so they are checking on his size, position and the location of my placenta. The size is the least of their worries though bc they know how inaccurate it can be. Still, it’ll be fun to see the estimate! I’ll let you know what they say!

MsPlucky : Ohhhh. They call that my “belly measurement.” Sorry, didn’t know that’s what you were talking about. Mine is always right on track. They’ve been measuring that for the last several appointments.

llevinso : I’ve heard that’s one of the most reliable ways to tell if you’re having an “oversized” baby. So, if you’re within normal range presumably a baby your body can handle.
Who knows. It all seems to be a guessing game as far as size goes. I’m just working on my kegel exercises and hoping for the best!
You’re due in 3 weeks or something close right?

MsPlucky : I hit 37 weeks this Friday. So a little over 3 weeks to go! I still haven’t even packed my hospital bag yet…I need to get moving!
