- Wedding: February 2011
As you could tell from my question, I am wondering if others have had unexpected wedding plans?
I have been originally planning on getting married in July, but life happened and we rolled with the punches. To give you an idea of what happened, here is a blurb from my wedding website:
I have been meaning to write this for some time, but it has taken me a little while to collect my thoughts. As some of you know (some of you may not know), Collin and I were married on February 10, 2011 surrounded by our loving family. This may come as a surprise, because we originally planned to get married in July. But, life happens and you just have to take it as it comes.
Collin’s mom, Carla, has been battling breast cancer and her condition took a turn for the worse recently. We knew she may not have much time left, so we adjusted our plans accordingly. Collin and I both wanted Carla to witness our marriage and it was something she wanted as well. So, we brought the wedding to her. We organized a small ceremony in about 3 days (yes, it can be done!). The ceremony was simple, beautiful and most importantly, meaningful. Carla was able to witness our marriage and passed peacefully a mere 36 hours later. She was a model of strength and love. She will continue to inspire and influence our family for generations to come.
Despite the bittersweet moments, Collin and I are happy and ready for our life together. We have set a strong foundation and will continue to build from there. We plan to have a renewal of vows ceremony on July 2 fondly referred to as “The Celebration”. We are so excited to spend that time celebrating with all of our family and friends!
Have you or anyone else you know had a similar experience?
