I did! I went into a local dress maker with heaps of pictures, told her which parts of which dresses I liked and she sketched it up. I’m about a month off it being finished and I’m in love with my dress so bad! It’s actually better than I imagined and fits me like a glove!

my mum is a professional bridal gown dressmaker. she has been waiting for this day for years! of course, within the first 15 minutes of my first fitting she declared i was the worst bride she had ever dealt with 🙂 somehow i don’t think she ‘accidently’ sticks quite as many pins in the bodies of her other brides!

My dress cost $1900 (so not necessarily cheap) and is a tea length 50’s style prom dress made of silk dupion. I’m having my dress made by a bridal shop that ONLY makes dresses for brides. They’re a very established business so they can charge a fair bit for their work. Prices will vary depending on the dressmaker.

The main reason I chose to have my dress made was because there just wasn’t anything in shops that fit what I wanted for my wedding dress. I’ve had a great experience having my dress made, I don’t regret anything about it at all!

I’m having this dress made by sewingpretty on Etsy (she has a website with a portfolio: sewprettyboutique.com), but in green taffeta, minus the big bow in front.

The fabric:

The whole thing cost $180, versus the $500+ I’d have to spend if I had Dolly Couture make a custom dress for me. Deadline is November 10…can’t wait to see it!
