We have 7 months and 14 days til we say I DO. To make a long story short, our original venue decided to relocate back in May.. no big deal.. then last month we had a meeting with them and find out they are completely stopping hosting events as of Nov 1st through the Fall of ’13. So basically they left us high and dry, with the option of having our event at the Holiday Inn they were originally occupying (they were a separate banquet company renting their ballrooms inside the Holiday Inn). We met with Holiday Inn last night and right off the bat didn’t like it. We didn’t like that it was a corporation and there was no wiggle room, they didn’t seem to be willing to work with us.. it’s just a bad situation. It left a bad taste in our mouth.
We have an appointment next week at another venue I really like, and wish we would of gone with from the beginning.. fingers crossed it’ll work out there and we’ll have this figured out.
Have any of you had to make venue switches, how did it all work out? I’m pretty stressed over this whole situation.

How did the new venue meeting go? (Have you gone yet… not sure when you posted this). That sucks about your venue but good thing you still have some time and options.
We have not had to switch our reception venue but we just booked our ceremony venue (yeah, we did it backwards but we lucked out). With just over 2 months to go, we were lucky to find a ceremony location close to the reception venue in our price range and what we originally wanted. Good luck.

We had to switch venues 3 months before the big day. The first place was dishonest with us about exactly what we were getting, so we ended up not doing business with them. Luckily, we were able to find another venue right away. The hardest part was that the original venue was outdoors, with trees and grass. Our venue that we ended up with was a hotel, so it was a very different atmosphere and I had to change a lot of the decorations that I had already made. Hopefully you’re able to find a new one soon, and it wont be too different than what you originally wanted!

I had to switch my reception venue from a really pretty ranch that went perfectly with my shabby/chic theme, to the fellowship hall at the church >.> I wasn’t happy, but I have 6 weeks left and everthing sort of fell apart about 3 weeks ago so I’m going to just have to make it work.
I’m happy to have the reception hall, because there is literally no where else, but it is probably not going to be my DREAM reception, but at this point as long as we get through it I will be happy!!
Unlike PP I’m not going to redo a lot of my decor, I’m going to keep it the same – rustic/shabby chic, and hope that it winds up looking okay! (Seriously though, 6 weeks out, all that matters is getting it OVER)

@bridalprincess: We have our meeting with the venue tomorrow night, and hopefully we will be booking it! I’ve been researching it like crazy, reading reviews & talking to people I know who have hosted events there. It seems like it’s going to be perfect for us, even better than our original venue. So maybe this was a blessing in disguise.
@Mrs.C.to.bee: I can’t imagine changing venue’s with only 6 weeks to go, I’d be freaking out about that! I thought 7 months was too soon! All you can do is stay positive and get through it in one piece!
@Holocene: That’s a shame you had to change everything becaues you switched venues. That shouldn’t be an issue for us.. keeping my fingers crossed!
