My e-ring is a vintage-look diamond and gemstone with lots of nooks and crannies and it is raised up quite a bit.
I work as a preschool teacher and spend lots of time doing yukky things like wiping noses and helping in the bathroom, not to mention stretching gloves over my hands for really dirty jobs :)…….
Do any of you have a CZ or other inexpensive “stand-in” for your real e-rings or wedding sets?
I love love love my ring, but don’t want to get it gunked up, or weakened/scratched,(and it is 18k white gold, so there is the rhodium coating to consider) OR scratch any small people. Also, those latex gloves are a bear to get on over a raised setting!
I waited so long for my ring and hate not wearing it 5 days a week…..so I am considering a CZ in sterling or even 10k with a smaller stone just for work. My fiance thinks it is a great idea and he plans to do the same with his wedding band when we get married. I have seen a few that even look quite a bit like my e-ring!
I wouldn’t even consider it if it weren’t for the fact that I am at work more than not and hate looking at my “nekkid” finger .
For those that have a “stand-in”…what kind did you get?

I just wear my wedding band when I don’t want to get my e-ring dirty. It’s a simple, plain white gold band. I figure it does the job and lets people know I’m married, but it’s harder to ruin.
My e-ring is a family diamond so my Mother-In-Law had it before me. She bought herself a “stand in ring” to keep her finger from being naked after she gave hers to me. She went to Bealls or TJ Max or one of those places and bought a cheap ring, and she’s gotten a lot of compliments on it!

I don’t have a “stand-in” ring for work, but I have been debating getting one for when we go on vacations and stuff, just to be safe. When we were on our honeymoon, we met a couple who had “stand-in” rings with CZ and a cheaper metal in case they were lost or stolen while on vacation. Seemed like a good idea.

No, I just wear a plain band for travel and work. I did have a stand in CZ ring when I was pregnant (my fingers started swelling early into the pregnancy). At work the bling factor doesn’t really matter anymore, everyone knows I’m married.

I have a stand in. I actually got a CZ of my dream ring and then got my real diamond. I think when I go back to work in the fall, I plan to wear the CZ. I also work with kids. I got my cz from http://www.e14k.com and love it. Got it in 14k so it looks really nice. I’ve tried HSN before and love their absolute jewelry but e14k is really good. Best of luck!

I don’t have a stand-in ring, but if I had a job like yours or anything else that requried a lot with my hands, I would get one.

My Fiance got me a promise ring about a year into our relationship and when I worked at a boarding facility I wore that instead of my e-ring.

My mom and I have always wore bands with a row of diamonds as thumb rings. She got an eternity band so I now have 2 and was planning on resizing one for work. I’m in nursing school so I’m constantly in gloves and it gets tricky if I’m doing a sterile procedure. My engagement ring is a 1.5 ct princess cut 3-stone ring and I’m having two 1 ct bands with 5 round stones added (one on either side) so my ring will be BIG.

I don’t have a stand in but my partner does — he bought a stainless steel version of his ring to wear to work rther than lose or damage his ‘nice’ one.

Try ashadiamonds.com (and you can also find Ashas for great prices on diamondbistro.com). Ashas are the BEST cz you will find. They’re ridiculously believable, and worth a little extra money that they cost over a regular cz. And they have so many styles, you may even find one very similar to you actual e-ring!

I have a CZ AND a plain band. The CZ ring was my engagement ring after my diamond was put in my wedding ring (only wanted 1 ring in the end), the plain band was for our honeymoon. We went to Jamaica and didn’t want to lose the diamond ring. The band is just sterling silver and I actually got it on Amazon. Worked really well, still said I was married but I could have cared less if I lost it. We talked about selling it to a shop on the beach as a good story but ended up not doing it.

if you think you’ll wear your stand-in ring 5 days a week for many years, I suggest investing in something with slightly better quality metal. such as a CZ with 10K white gold (not gold plated). you can find these for around $100 or so — google it. many will be on amazon.com or overstock.com. or if not gold, then stainless steel, which at least doesn’t tarnish. (if you can find it- I’ve never seen a stainless ring with a CZ in it but maybe it’s out there somewhere.)
sterling silver will tarnish (esp where you can’t get to it such as inside the prongs) which you will totally see through the clear CZ stone, and other cheap costume rings are usually plated “base metal” (for ex: copper plated w/ gold or rhodium) which will wear away very quickly – like, it only takes about a month to start wearing off.
I’m going to order a stand-in ring for camping and other messy activities, but mine is just going to be a plain, chunky silver band. I’m ordering mine from etsy, and it will have the date of our wedding stamped inside. it has a cute, handmade look to it. I’m also getting one for my Fiance as a surprise.

I don’t need one for work, but I am planning on getting a simple and cheap stand-in wedding band to wear instead of my e-ring and band when I work out or go swimming. Don’t want my pretty babies to slip off and sink while I’m snorkeling in the Caribbean or something!

I’m thinking about getting one or just planning on wearing the wedding band to work. I’m a nurse and I don’t like worrying about if it rips my gloves or any of the germs

Well, I ordered a rhodium-dipped sterling CZ on ebay. I figure if it’s a dud, I am only out $40!
My main stone is a pale aquamarine, but the CZ ring I ordered is very close in style and setting, just smaller and lower, so it mimics my real ring.
Thank you for the links, and if this cheapy ring doesn’t work out, I will check them out!
