We are probably doing IUI this month, I believe AF will be here tonight or tomorrow morning 🙁 I have read a couple of studies done that say that IUI success goes UP if you do the trigger shot AFTER IUI. Anyone heard of this or done this?

I had success with IUI and I took the trigger shot before insemination. The thing is, washed sperm does not live as long as regular sperm (I think something like 8 hours), so if you wait to take the shot you very well may not have any sperm there to meet the egg. I’m curious where you read that, because it makes no sense to me. You are already bypassing a lot of “travel” time via insemination as well.

I haven’t heard of this before. For my IUI’s I took trigger shot before, I think 36 hours. But then again it didn’t work for me. Have you discussed this with your RE?

That’s interesting. I’ve never heard of that. We were successful doing the HCG trigger shot 12 hours before IUI.

The only reason people do a Trigger post IUI is to boost HCG levels in anticipation that the IUI was already successful. As in, they do a normal IUI cycle with Trigger to induce ovulation, followed by a second Trigger half-way through the LP. The idea is that if HCG is present/high in your system, then your body will continue to produce it and therefore, have a successful implantation as it changes the uterine lining. However, I don’t see much merit to this….because if it were proven to work, every IUI cycle would do this. I’ve seen it happen with IVF cycles but you are already transferring a blast. I would be more concerned that if the IUI was unsuccessful, I would get a false positive HPT and Beta, and prolonged AF.
