@Keylime Pie:  Maybe they had a good reason.  Who cares?  It’s not your body.  That’s what I “don’t get”…why do other people care SO MUCH about what I do with my body…?

AND…so it’s like a Republican thing now to be pro-life (though I know there are Republicans who are pro-choice).  So these people want EVERY SINGLE CHILD to be born…but then they don’t want to fund education.  THAT makes me sad.

@peachacid:  Yeah, I don’t understand being anti-abortion AND anti-government aid. That’s nonsense!

@SpecialSundae:  This. And also this infographic:

Yes, overgeneralization and not true of everyone, but its part of why I hate these terms.

Do I think abortion should only be a last resort and not a form of birth control? Yes. Do I think women are smart enough to choose for themselves? Hell yes.

ETA: I want to add here that I am very pro-choice and had I gotten pregnant (despite being very safe, things happen) prior to my finishing my education and being self sufficient it would have definitely been a choice for me. Now that I am self sufficient and about to get married I can’t justify it to myself anymore so I would not choose at this point to have an abortion even though I don’t want kids immediately. That’s what choice is all about.

@peachacid:  It’s not always about politics.

And I think the reason pro-life people are pro-life is because they believe abortion is murder. Maybe to pro-lifers it’s not about your body; maybe it’s about the child you are carrying.

Being anti-abortion doesn’t give you the sole right to the word “pro-life”. Call a spade a spade and call yourself “anti-abortion”.

@Keylime Pie:  Obviously, you do care.  Otherwise, you would not have felt the need to criticize the poster who is getting an abortion.  If you didn’t care what she does with her body, then you would have kept your opinion to herself.  Especially when she NEVER asked for opinions.

@Keylime Pie:  You can be both, but you shouldn’t use one when you actually mean the other.

@SpecialSundae:

I do not believe in killing anyone, for any reason.

I am anti-abortion and pro-life.

@specialsundae  +1.

I would consider myself both pro-life and pro-choice.  I believe that “life” is defined at viability which, medically, is around 24 weeks post-conception.  I believe it’s irresponsible to not use birth control. I would never have an abortion, myself.  But I can say that having never been in a situation to need to have one.   I believe no one has the right to tell me what I can and can’t do with my body.

I didn’t read the thread mentioned above…. so I have no input on that.  What I can tell you……

I was 29 when I gave birth to my daugther.  I was married, educated had a job making over 100,000 per year and lots of support.  My daughter was wanted and loved by not only me and her father but all of our extended family.  You know what…. it’s STILL hard so I can’t IMAGINE being a successful parent if you are in a bad situation or an abusive situation or even just a situation where you are young and scared and broke.  You can say they shouldn’t have been having sex, but… really?  There are TONS of kids that come from crappy home lives where there parents are not present (at best) and they get NO information or attention.

Legislating abortion as illegal is not the answer.  The answer is better schools, after school programs, work environments where parents don’t have to work 60 hours a week to scrape by.  The answer is to make birth control available and to make available programs that educate teens on the consequences of sex.  The answer is community leaders who can model good behaviors and teach kids what they should be able to expect in relationships.

We don’t have all that in our society…. so I don’t judge the positions other people get themselves in until I am in a position to help them.  And I think abortion should be legal for anyone who needs it.

@Keylime Pie:  If you don’t care what someone does with their body…how can you be pro-life and therefore against a woman’s right to choose what to do with her body?
