I have always wanted to go to Ireland. Never been, no help there.

Why did you choose Sandals Whitehouse to begin with? Have you ever been to Jamaica? We just came back from Jamaica. We didn’t go to whitehouse, although on the way to the falls we did drive past it. It is very secluded, not much there. Although, if going to do Black River or YS falls, or other excursions, it is a good place to be.

Ohh okay. But it sounds like tropical might not be eactly what you want. It definitely is secluded, so if that’s what you like, then I think you will love that aspect. It was the only resort there, so you won’t have to worry about vendors or other resorts walking along the beach.

What does your fiance want to do? You could always just do Whitehouse as your honeymoon, and do Ireland as an anniversary trip down the road.

We went to Ireland for our honeymoon and it was a BLAST!!!!  Our wedding was in November, which is the tourist “off season” over there …. it actually cost us about the same price as it would have been to go to the Carribbean.  We stayed in 4* and 5* hotels (one was a castle …. Dromoland Castle) all throughout Ireland and rented a car so we could sight-see at our pleasure.  It was -awesome- and we want to go back ASAP!  We used Authentic Ireland (http://www.authenticireland.com/) as our travel agency (Sarah was our awesome rep) and I HIGHLY recommend them — everything went so smooth!  PM me if you want more details!

My husband and I took a three week honeymoon in Ireland, land o’ the castles. We didn’t stay exclusively in castles, as there are so many woderful, charming, romantic (and **inexpensive**) B&Bs, but we did stay in Waterford and Dromoland. You can check out more info on our self-planned trip here: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/pics-from-our-ireland-honeymoon-1#post-3050278

Waterford turned out to be one of our least favorite places to stay (it was rather dated), but we LOVED Dromoland. Definitely the luxurious experience a lot of honeymooners are looking for! We went rowing on a lake, took walks in the garden, ate fantastic food, and went on a hawk walk, which was a lot of fun. Unfortunately it’s a budget buster.

There are also many, many tours of castles you can take in IE. Our favorite was Cahir Castle. We even found our own abandoned “castle” in the countryside and climbed up to the roof, where we could look out to the sea. 🙂

Well we just booked ours at Whitehouse Jamaica and we can’t wait! We’ve been to Jamaica before and we loved it, and it seems like all there is are good reviews about Whitehouse – I doubt you’d be disappointed! Whitehouse is rated the #1 Sandals resort for 2012. The little villages there sound so neat, Italian, French and Dutch. But hello, you’re in Jamaica on the gorgeous beach.

But, that’s definitely a very different kind of honeymoon than exploring the Irish countryside. So it’s really a personal choice.

Me and my FH would love to stay at a real castle..  It’s definitely something we are interested in and love the look and theme about it.  I would have loved to do that for our honeymoon but Europe wasn’t in our budget or the length of stay..  Hell I would have wanted to get married there.  However, there isn’t any castles near us that were big enough..  The only one I could find was in Ontario..

So we are doing something different..

We are going to Hawaii, and there is a vacation rental on Big Island that looks like a castle.. With a working draw bridge and moat so I’m excited!  Ours:

I second (or third?) the suggestion that y’all go to Ireland – it’s amazing!! Sooo beautiful. There’s a lot of posts on Weddingbee about where to go in Ireland so you should check on the Honeymoon boards for tips 🙂

Also, trust me, you will have an amazing time in Ireland even if staying in a castle is out of your budget! There are some super charming B&Bs – my BFF who I traveled with found an 800-year-old farmhouse turned into a hotel where we stayed a few nights, it was so unique.
