I’ve been to the area (gorgeous!) but I hate resorts, so no suggestions there.  But just wanted to say, you should definitely go check out Chichen Itza / the cenote nearby and Tulum while you’re there!  The ruins are AMAZING, as is swimming in this huge natural swimming hole in the limestone (cenote).

You should check out Secrets, The Royal, and Iberostar.  I have stayed at Secrets Maroma and The Royal in Playa del Carmen.  I loved both resorts.  Each have their pros and cons.  Secrets is more for couples and The Royal had more of a party atmposphere (it is literally close to 5th Avenue).  I have not been to Iberostar Grand Paraiso, but I want to go one day.  Let me know if you have any questions about either resort.

@PurpleOstrich:  we;ve booked the excellence hotel…the one has cancun in the name

i like resorts with no restaurant reservation limit, and with a variety of restaurants (i admit i even looked up the menus haha)

heard that secrets is really great too!

@PurpleOstrich:  My best friend honeymooned there at the Secrets property. She said is was AMAZING. She did mention the cenote. She said the food was out of this world and service was incredible.

We decided on Secrets MB!  May 20-26th.  The swim up rooms really clinched the deal for us.

@PurpleOstrich:  there are so many wonderful resorts that you can honeymoon at.  the top ones are excellence, secrets, dreams or any of the resorts under their umbrellas.

i’ve been to a number of resorts along there but they were not adult only.

the tours from the hotel are usually reasonably priced and include the transportation.  definitely do the cenote, fun stuff.  xplor, xcaret and xel-ha are all amazing.  rio secreto is supposed to be good.  chichen itza is a full day trip due to a long bus ride from the riviera coast (it’s only an hour from my house though).  if you enjoy culture, definitely go.  if your resort is more south, you may want to go to tulum instead because it will be closer.

(funny, i was just checking out resorts along that coast.  we will be going there later this month)

We did a familymoon at Hacienda Tres Rios.  Kayaking, snorkeling(through the cenotes), biking, catamarans were all included in the price.  We only left twice(cause there was so much to do there) to see Rio Secreto and go shopping.  It was amazing and we plan to go back!

@PurpleOstrich:  We used a local travel agent.  I’m not really sure we got any better of a deal using him, but he was a nice guy and he gets paid. I’m sure you could get him to price it for you.

His website is here:  http://www.asthecrowefliestravel.com/

We are paying $4100-$4200 for 6 nights swim up room.  I think it’s preferred club.  That includes private transfers and non stop air from Houston.  May include insurance too.  I’d have to check.

We decided to do 6 nights because we want a day at home after the wedding and a day at home after the honeymoon before work.  So we’re going Monday to Sunday and when we get back, that Monday is Memorial Day.

come join us!  looks fantastic!
