Welcome!  I love Chicago.  Been here for over 5 years & can’t imagine living any place else.  Plus, this is the city where I met my husband πŸ™‚

My fiancé and I are moving to the city at the end of February! It’s a nightmare trying to figure out how to find a place to live. We will be excited when we are actually there!

Your going to LOVE Chicago!

I was born and raised there and always visit every summer to enjoy the windy city, the blues/jazz fest and taste of Chicago. Chicago has some of the most amazing music, food and festivals in the whole United States.

I live in Philly now and am trying to convince my Fiance to move to Chicago. Would love to raise kids there, great place to have a family!

This is possibly the greatest city ever :). You get the big city feeling with lots of neighborhoods that are more residential. I also moved to Philly for 4 years after being raise in Chicago (longest four years of my life!), and seriously, the day I moved back to chicago was one of the happiest of my life.

Enjoy yourself here!

We’ll be moving in June, after the wedding.  We’re not sure where yet, but it could be Chicago.  We’ll find out on match day in March! SurprisedSmile

@IndyBride23: Hey! I hope your week has been good! Well as good as cold and snow can bring you! yuck! πŸ™‚

I just moved here about 7 weeks ago with my fiancee and frankly its been a rough adjustment! He was offered a job here and we could not say no to the career opportunity. But…..    lets move across the country and get married all in the same 6.5 months?

I left all of my bridesmaids in Dallas and my family is from NY. I am pretty much here alone and get to plan my wedding all by lonesome! I know one or two people here but havent really gotten to go out much because of finances. I finally got a job offer this week, and I have been “DILIGENT” about handing out resumes to people taking them or not! I was up to like 70 resumes…Its only part-time but we are hoping that it is enough to allow us to still keep our wedding date. We spent a chunk of our wedding money just moving here and well its been kinda teary…..

I dont really know how people make friends here? I grew up in the north but do not remember people being this hard to get along with! I guess too many years in the south just makes you friendly and able to smile? πŸ™‚  i have moved all around the country and have never felt quite this isolated or been such an outsider! I am determined to change this!

I read all of the “you will love this city” comments and I guess I am a hard sell right now….. they do not make it easy here! At any rate, you are a bit ahead of me in the wedding department and have been in Chicago a bit longer but I still know how you feel… its overwhelming! Sure, there is some great food, great shopping, good music-though i havent gotten to hear anything live yet and I am sure a great pub or two around …. but who wants to do this alone?

At any rate, if you ever wanna hang out or just talk online- give me a shout!

@kimberlysnyder08

Your story sounds very similar to mine and it makes me a bit worried! My fiance and I are moving to the city at the beginning of March so he can accept a job offer. I’m afraid of exactly what you are describing.

I’m nervous about finding a job, not knowing anyone, and being so bored that I hate the city.

I hope everyone who is saying I will love it are right!

@KatelynMarie: Well you are one step ahead! you know me! atleast online or we always meet up if you like! and they are right to an extent….. there is lots to do! and maybe come summertime with the festivals and beer gardens, the city may be a bit more social. but its hard to make time to do things when you are job searching and by yourself. there are certainly good days and better days. my fiancée has been nothing but supportive and great! i am very lucky to have such a great guy in my life! i am thrilled that my hubby-to-be is doing well at his new job and ultimately it was the right move. just horrific timing! πŸ™‚

I love Chicago.  Can’t imagine living anywhere else.  Then again, I did pretty much grow up around here.  I agree that meeting people gets harder as you grow older.  And people really go into hybernation mode here in the winter. My best advice is to start doing the things you love.  I just met two awesome girls this summer while doing boot camp in my neighborhood.  We bonded through our workouts and now hang out quite a bit with out SO’s.  Sometimes I think it’s easier to get a date than it is to make a friend!

Has there been a Chicago meet up?
