We are going on a big vacation … but I got married on Saturday and we leave in a couple days – it feels like we’ve skipped our newly wed time. =( If we left right away than it would feel different probably.

We’re definitely taking a big vacation!  We’ve been pinching pennies and taking PB&J for lunch for the entirety of our LONGGG engagement in order to save!  We deserve to splurge a bit!

We are paying for everything ourselves as well and are leaving the honeymoon out of it for now…even though we both want to have a nice long vacation!  We have agreed that it will be even better when we have some money for it and just focus on enjoying being married…maybe even do a weekend away somewhere close.

The more and more we think about it, the more we are seriously considering doing the opposite. Forgoing the ‘wedding’ (eloping or having a small ceremony with dinner after) and having an amazing honeymoon!

We couldn’t afford to go anywhere after our wedding and also my husband was starting a new job a month after we got married so we had to worry about moving and other important things like that.  Hopefully we will get to do something later this year or over the summer next year.

We had planned to take a two week cruise on the Mediterranean after our May 2011 wedding but we’ve moved the wedding up a year and decided to stay local and visit a few islands nearby (Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard) after the wedding but still take the cruise in May 2011 for our one year aniversary.  I’m so happy to hear we’re not the only ones forgoing the big honeymoon right after the wedding!

We are paying for our NYE wedding, which was marked up 2x for everything because of the day.  Next year we also want to buy two new cars so for now we are going to try to break even on our wedding and then focus on our downpayments for our cars.  Seems a shame not to have a honeymoon but we are realistic about our money situation!

We did a local minimoon right after the wedding in August and we just booked our 4 night stay in Puerto Rico this December last night.

We did this for 3 reasons:

    – we didn’t want to have to plan a honeymoon at the same time we were planning a wedding

    – August in MN is nice enough weather we didn’t really want to “escape” so we thought waiting til Winter would be a great idea

    – the couple of months in between to save some extra spending $ is going to be nice 🙂

My Fiance hates to fly and neither of us like the beach/hot weather, so we’re driving up north and enjoying the fall foliage in New England. We haven’t been on just-the-two-of-us vacation in over a year and won’t have the chance to before the wedding, so it was definitely a priority for us to take a trip right after.

I would just say take a few days even if you don’t go anywhere to enjoy each other.  It can’t always be done but there’s a nice after wedding feeling that is great to bask in for a few days even if it’s not doing anything crazy.

yeah it’s looking more and more like we can’t afford our honeymoon, sadness!  Oh well hopefully we can make it up at some later date.  *nods*
