You could try loosely braiding it while it’s wet to help put some wave in, then scrunch with some product…that might help you achieve a similar effect. I’m no expert, though!

play around with your curling iron. it’s easy to make curls like that, just difficult to describe. i would try rollers, then supplement with the curling iron.

you’ll need lots of volumizing spray and a flexible hair spray — loreal elnett is great.

You need a lOT of product.  When I had my practice hair session, the lady spent about 20 minutes just rubbing texture spray into my hair so it would be able to tease and hold curl.  She used a big red can, I think its called Big Hair…or made by Chi hair products.  After that, just tease and use a big curling iron. Atleast 1.5 inch.

I helped my friend do her hair for a gala in NYC. Her hair is thin and an inch or two beyond her shoulders.

I set her hair with jumbo rollers after I coated her hair with soft gel hair cream and left her hair to set for 1.5 hrs. Then I used a 1.5″ curling iron to add more texture and volume. I finished her hair with hair spray. She said her hair stayed curled until the end of the night at 3am!

That look reminds me of this video I saw a little while ago:

Good luck!

If you have thin hair like me, this is what I’d do:

Use a volumizer/thickener — I use a rootboost product at my roots (TIGI Catwalk, or Big Sexy Hair make some decent ones), then blow dry my hair upside-down with my fingers shaking it. I also use a little oil on the ends so they don’t get frizzy (specifically I use Surface BABA oil), but I have kind of ugly-wavy hair, not sexy-wavy hair.

Use big hot rollers. If your hair doesn’t hold curl well, spray each section with a hairspray before rolling it. When the rollers are completely cool, take it out. You also can use a curling iron method with a big curling iron rather than rollers: take a chunk of hair, hold the barrel near your scalp underneath that chunk, and curl your hair around the barrel (rather than the traditional way of curling and turning the barrel from the end to the top). This will give you lots of volume at the top and loose, sexy curls! You really need a good, professional curling iron to get the look you want, though — preferably a ceramic one! They seem to work way better than the cheap Revlon ones you can buy anywhere. 🙂

I also get more volume by using Big Sexy Hair’s Backcomb in a Bottle, if I need an extra boost. My hair is SO thin that I usually need to use a lot of products to get it to look like I have volume.
