I’m getting married in September, 50 people tops my family, few out of town guests and my NYC friends
anyone know of DJs and reasobaly priced venues in NYC and flower vendors and caterers that dont charge an arm and a leg
I want something elegant and with beer and wine. I can skimp on the food, no appetizers no dessert; or on one show one couple just had lots of hor douvres to save money but it had chicken so it was filling but dont want to skimp on the decor /venue or the music, I am going to do lots and lots of dancing; I’d rather have a small quality wedding than a big one and sacrifice quality

Terrace in the Sky is relatively affordable by NYC standards (and I realize that is a huge qualifier). It is a very elegant and lovely restaurant. Some of my friends nearly got married there since the food/venue was quite affordable (by NYC standards) but the open bar was too expensive. But it sounds like that might not be an issue for you. Good luck!

New York Magazine has a Weddings issue out on stands now. In the issue they have weddings at every cost – and they even cover venues and vendors. One of the couples in the real weddings section had a $10,000 budget wedding in New York City. You should check it out – if only for inspiration.

If you don’t mind Queens, there’s plenty of venues there that can be quite affordable but still in the NYC area. Google reception halls in Queens and a nice list should come up. You can call them and ask them pricing and maybe negotiate a custom package deal.

I would look into The Foundry…it overlooks NYC and the Queensboro bridge. It’s gorgeous. Their website is http://www.thefoundry.info

As a suggestion for a DJ, we booked DJ Gaza. He was very reasonable ($1250 for playing from 5pm until midnight, and he’ll arrive at about 2pm). All of the people we’ve talked to have had nothing but amazing things to say about him.

check battery park. they were booked for my date but sposedly good for smaller events. also check the omni – they were surprising flexible when we spoke to them earlier this year (no charges for the space!). we ended up going for astra b/c food was important for us. for djs: check scratch academy.

thanks I found my venue, since I only have 50 guests I can treat them nicely at the waldorf, I;m glad I stuck to my guns, quality over quantity and not inflating my list
