I see a lot of discussion of when is too late for peonies, but does anyone know when peonies might start becoming available in LA? At some point I have to figure out what’s realistic for a late March wedding. (I really should have tried to get to the flower market when I was out there last weekend…)

Don’t worry, it’s never too late/early for peonies in LA. I’m pretty sure they’re not native (grew up there and never saw one in the ground until I moved to the East Coast:) But I had them in my bouquet in December and they weren’t super pricey. And peonies are definitely out season everywhere in December:)
Anyway, you’ll be able to get pretty much whatever you want at the Flower Mart (worth a visit!) and you’ll find that flowers in general are more reasonable out there. Maybe ’cause it’s closer to import them.
Okay, whew! Hope that helped.

Peonies are never in season in L.A. as we don’t have a cold enough winter for them to grow here.
Right now they are coming from Oregon and in the winter they come from New Zealand. I think your florist will be able to get them for you in March, they just need to be preordered. You’re going to have a GREAT wedding! 🙂

Don’t think they are native. You can call a florist to find out when they are in season though! I am pretty sure spring is the only time they grow and are sold affordably

Thanks, ladies! I love all the typical spring flowers, too, so if we end up using those for most of the centerpieces and limiting the peonies, that’s fine, too. Seems like ranunculus should be available then (judging from the Carlsbad flower fields), so that may be a good “full flower” substitute.
