Hey everyone taking normal multi-vitamins —
be careful not to get too much Vitamin A as it can cause birth defects … http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJM199511233332101. The threshold is somewhere below 10,000 IU
for instance the prenatal I have here (Western Family Prenatal) has 1500 IU (450 mcg)
whereas Flinstones Complete has 1600 IU (so taking two gives you 3200 IU)
and the multivitamin (again, Western Family) has 5000 IU
since you also get Vitamin A in your diet you would need to be careful not to hit that 10,000 IU threshold if you were getting already 5000 IU from a pill.
probably this is paranoid but I thought I should share …

I take the Target brand prenatals and they have never once made me feel sick in the slightest. I showed them to my doctor and she approved of them. They don’t have DHA though in case that is something that’s important to you. Good luck and hope you feel better!

I take the Target kind, but my Aunt’s a nurse, so I’ll be getting some prescription kind for free soon. 🙂

I’ve been going crazy researching these — we are TTC. I tried Rainbow Light (which is also Trader Joe’s) but it makes me so sick, even when I take it with dinner. And that’s supposed to be easy on you. I’m trying New Chapter Perfect Prenatal — it’s in the mail.
