It’s really going to depend on the area/state you live in, as well as the the body of water. I am in Florida, so I’m quite a bit a ways from Ohio.

In any case, we don’t full-time live on the water, but spend the majority of our summers between 2 lake houses.

The only bug issues tend to be in the summer, when the blind mosquitos hatch. They cover everything and are so gross, but at least they don’t bite. Again, I’m in Florida, so of course regular ole’ mosquitos are abundant in the summer as well.

We do have cottonmouth snakes regularly. And alligators can be pesky. Not sure what dangerous animals (if any) are hanging around in Ohio.

There is no flooding from lakes in the area we are in, but there can be heavy flooding around area rivers. A gorgeous flowing river can quickly turn to marshland in the summer.

Another issue that I personally have, again during the summer, is I am allergic to something that blooms at night in the lake. It is most likely a lily or algae. My eyes swell shut. Lovely.

But, all of these things are absolutely worth it to wake up and look out your front porch at glassy water and a sunrise. It is seriously amazing and we live for it.
