My mom and I are going to make my veil.  I don’t think it should be too terribly difficult (although we haven’t started yet other than buying the tulle).  I googled “how to make a veil” and a lot of websites showed up (here’s an example http://www.chicaandjo.com/2008/04/08/make-your-own-wedding-veil/)

Another idea someone told me was to buy a really inexpensive veil from Joann Fabric’s (or whatever craft store you go to) and de-construct it to use as a pattern.  The hardest part is probably making sure the lower edge is cut correctly and this would give you that guide.  By making the veil (even if using another veil as a pattern), it allows you to have the exact color you want, a “nicer” tulle, embellishments if you want them, etc)

My mom and I made mine, actually without a pattern.  She is an expert seamstress and I am pretty good with a glue gun:)  We figured out the length we wanted, bought a bunch of tulle and some pretty trim at Jo-Anns and played around with a barrett attachment until we were happy with it.  It helped that I worked at Jo-Anns at the time, so we felt like it was ok to “do-over” if we had to 🙂 (Although we didn’t have to!)
