@heathergettingmarried:

Are you planning to make it with fresh flowers?  If so, I know it won’t be quite the same, but maybe try it with (cheap) silk flowers to see how you like it, and then if you like how it turns out, you can have the silk one to toss or to save.

I made my own, but I did it as a little purse that matched my dress.  I used fresh flowers I bought that morning from the grocery store.

I’m doing all my flowers myself. I did a trial run in august & ordered 100 roses from the Flower Exchange. This was a centerpiece I tried out.

My advice: do a trial run! You’ll be all the more prepared for your friday night pre-wedding flower blitz. If you’re doing real flowers, definately opt for the floral foam as it will keep them alive FOREVER! They even have floral foam bouquet holders which are amazing. They will make your life so much easier. Also, get a team of crafty friends to help you out. It will make the job much more enjoyable.

@MrsRugbee: Thanks for the tip about the foam!

I plan to do my own bouquets as well and will also be doing a trial run a month or so before.  Sorry I don’t have any tips yet!

I made all the bouquets and floral arrangements for my wedding, and I’m so glad I did! I had trouble finding exactly what I wanted in inspiration pictures, which kind of freaked me out beforehand. I had a list of flowers and colors I knew I liked, then I went to this giant flower mart in SF and went nuts! Seriously, I bought so much, and it only cost $300! I played around with different arrangements till I found exactly what I wanted, and I couldn’t have been happier. I plan on writing a lot more about this on my blog when I get back our pro pics.

I really would love mine and my girls’ bouquets! =) Going to watch this board for tips! Best of Luck everyone!

How soon do you ladies make them in time for your wedding day?

@parasol: Ohhh please hurry and write that blog!!! I really want to go to the LA Flower District and go crazy, but having a stage full of Red Poinsettias, im not really sure which route to go for florals. I feel compelled to stick with Calla Lilies…but that can get so boring. So glad to hear you had a great experience making your own and for such a great price!

I made my toss bouquet out of real touch flowers–I plan on throwing it right at my Maid/Matron of Honor:

@CupCakeMeg: If you’re ordering your flowers online you’ll generally get them delivered 2 days before the event. They need about 1-2 days to hydrate so most make their arrangements the night before the wedding and make the boutonnieres the morning of.

@CupCakeMeg: OK, I’m going to get a jump on that this week since there seems to be a lot of interest in DIY flowers! Let me know if you have any specifics questions/concerns you want to me to address–I can take those into consideration when I’m writing! I want whatever I post to be as useful to you ladies as possible, so feel free to let me know what that is! 🙂

I made all my flowers including the bouquets. I have experience with making flowers (it’s been years though) and I’m glad I did my own. I looked at several videos on youtube and when it came time to do them the “knack” all came back and was very proud, my husband too of what I accomplished. Check out videos and practice, practice, practice!!!
