We met on match. Everyone knew from day one and we’ve never been embarassed.  Not sure what there is to be embarassed about??? I don’t understand why some people feel it’s shameful to meet someone online. It’s not like we’re social pariahs and this was our only shameful option. You could spin anything into something negative if you want. You met in a bar? How shameful that the only way you could meet someone is if you were in a public drunken stupor! See what I mean? Most of our friends met online as well. I will have to say one thing though – my Darling Husband and I lived in different cities, worked in different towns, had opposite schedules, and very different social circles. Had it not been for the internet I would have never found him. Thank God for the interwebs and all of their shamefulness. Wink

Mr. Lox and I totally met online! We’re not emabrrassed about it and I don’t think anyone else should be either. It’s just another way to meet people, you know? I’m just glad I met him at all… I can’t imagine what my life would be like now without him!

We met on OkCupid. I’m absolutely not embarrassed by it, especially considering so many of my other friends have tried online dating! It’s just really not a taboo topic anymore. My Fiance and I never would have met otherwise, and even if we had, I doubt either of us would’ve asked the other out!

We met on a site called MetalDating. It was a dating site for metal music fans. At the time, there were about 900 people signed up to the site (most from Europe), but we found each other anyway. We always marvel at the fact that we managed to meet, since the site was so small and inactive. It’s not even around anymore, which is sad.

We lived two states away from each other for a long time and talked online for a year and a half before we met, so people knew before we were together that we’d met online.

Side note: I met some of my closest friends online (one on OkCupid and tthee others on World of Warcraft), and he met a friend of his on OkC.

I met my Darling Husband on eHarmony.  In the beginning I was embarassed to tell people because I lived in a very small town where everyone was up in my business and I didn’t like the attention.  (DH lived several hours away and we had to fly to see each other.)  In the beginning I fibbed a few times and said that we met randomly while I was visiting his city.  DH was never embarassed though, in fact he was proud of it and loved telling people our story, so I grew to love it too.

@jlpalumbo:  We meet on match as well.  I agree with you that I wish I had a better story, but I am not going to lie about how we meet.  For many it is just a new way of meeting people, but in my little part of the world I still feel like online dating sites are the geeky way of meeting your So, or what to do after you have exhaused all other resources.

I meet my guy on OkCupid, and here we are four years later and going awesome. I didn’t have a problem with saying how we met – but it was funny trying to explain it to my great-aunts. They don’t have computers, but somehow had gotten the idea the all dating sites were basically the escort section of Craigslist, ha!

Although, I adore my man to the point that I wouldn’t be embarrased to say we met while baked bean wrestlin’ in the back of a pick-up truck*, just was long as I got to say we met!

*anyone else have this at county fairs in their area? First time I saw it was a little stunned, and a little not wanting baked beans for a while …
