While they are both great ideas, and there isn’t a cost difference, you need to explain to your mother (gently) that this is your day, and you feel like she is taking the veto power from you. Unless your mother is paying for your wedding, I don’t think she should have final say on anything IMO. And if she is, I think she should still listen to your requests. After all, it is YOUR wedding, right? Hope this helps…

I don’t know how well this will roll with her, but maybe try limiting her “veto control” of items to equal the cost that she is helping with. Say she gave you $XXXX money, and it covers A, B, C and D wedding things. Say this dessert dilemma is E. Let her know you’ll take her feelings into consideration, and leave it at that. Let her know your decision after it has been made (deposit has been given, etc.)

You sound totally psyched about the ice cream truck! Do it! It sounds fun and memorable.

We are having a SMALL wedding cake and then a dessert buffet.  mini pies.  mini cheesecakes.  brownies.  cookies.  truffles.  this is the part of the reception i’m MOST excited about!!!

Personally, I hate ice cream so I voted for mini desserts, but do what you want.  Though if you’re having a night wedding it’ll probably be fairly cool by dessert time.

We’re doing pie, because that’s what we like.  🙂  You should do what you like too.

We are having cake but not your traditional style cakes.

I would describe it as cakes you would find in a diner.

It will be 3 seperate cakes.  Marble Cake w/ fudge frosting,  Red Velvet Cake and Carrot Cake.

They won’t be decorated just frosted.

We got married on New Year’s Eve, and our ceremony didn’t start until 7:30, so we opted for mini-cupcakes instead of traditional cake.  They were a big hit!

I am baking my own cake but LOVE ice cream.  The cart is adorable and I think it might be hard for your mom to embrace this new idea but I would go for it.

go for the ice cream! you can bake a lot of the desserts yourself…just prepare ahead of time and freeze them. that way mom is happy because you still have “regular” desserts, and it’s cheap. or you could go to costco — their desserts are usually pretty good!
