I am so freaked out by dress shopping. I’m not plus-sized, but I’m not happy at my current weight and am struggling to convince myself that I deserve to go shopping with my current body size/shape. I know it is ridiculous, and I need to just get over it, but I was just wondering if anyone else is feeling other feelings than the normal “excited, happy, wonderful”.

I was really not excited to go. I HATE shopping and honestly didn’t know what size I wear because I go shopping that infrequently. The thought of all that shopping about a dress that I will wear once was nothing I was really interested in. After I went twice I really began to enjoy it. Don’t get me wrong it was still a challenge for me, but it began to be a bit more fun. Then I was able to find the dress of my dreams and I couldn’t be happier.

I wasn’t excited about dress shopping either. I easily get stressed out so I’m trying to avoid stress-inducing situations as much as possible. I just bought a dress online at J Crew. It’s a really pretty strapless dress, but I’m concerned about it staying up all night so I may see if I can have straps added. That’s really the only alteration I need done.

@R.Elliott:I am not excited about the dress either. I am not overweight, I like my body and I would say I am a very fashionable person but I really don’t care about the wedding dress. I try to look online to get excited but I’m still not. Instead of paying $2000-$5000 for a dress I’d rather get a new Louis Vuitton and keep the rest in my bank account. Maybe it will get better after we begin to try dresses on.

Another one here–not excited about the shopping, not excited by how much something I really adore would cost. So I’ve bought a J. Crew dress on final sale that will go great with our venue/wedding plan and I think will work if I lose 10 pounds or so. I’ve still got time until the wedding, so I’ll try it on again in a few months, and if it’s still not working, or I have changed my mind about wanting to shop, I’ll still have time to go out and buy another dress.

@Frog E.: Hi wedding date twin. 🙂
I haven’t started dress shopping yet. I’m honestly not sure if I’m excited or not? I AM plus-sized but I have never had a hard time finding dresses that fit, but the money part has got me all ehhhh. I am the perfect height (5’9) for dresses though, so I’m sort of wondering how that will be?
I think part of my problem is I dk which styles I like on my body shape yet. Once I figure that out…maybe it’ll be more fun. I’m hoping the styles I want will look good, but I’m anxious about that not being the case.. Hm.

Me too. I haven’t been that crazy to dress shop. Not for any particular reason, just that the dresses are so rediculously expensive that I dont care to go too crazy over it. I bought a dress that I’m ok with on impulse at Running of the Brides, and I was going to try on more since that was my only shopping experience, but I’m just not that excited to so I havent yet.
