Honey, that sounds like me. SO got me a laptop battery for my 21st birthday – not exactly romantic, especially as one of my friends had already set the standard by getting engaged for her 21st.

Anyway, my guy and yours are just practical. As you well know, they are still lovely guys and we’re lucky to have them. If doing something nice for Valentine’s is your cup of tea, then say that. Don’t pretend you don’t want to do something. If he’s anything like my guy, he probably wouldn’t mind you suggesting that he take a turn to cook the romantic meal or to surprise you with something nice to do – and whilst a surprise is less surprising if you have to directly ask for it, it is better than feeling miserable and bitter on what has the potential to be a lovely day in your calendar. I say have a chat about it and decide on something you’d both like to do.

Good luck for your Graduation also – congratulations!

Valentine’s Day is just another day. I’ve felt this way for many years, and the Boyfriend or Best Friend and I don’t place too much importance on it. He’s not the most romantic guy, but every now and then he’ll surprise me with some little gesture; he knows he can do that any old day of the year.

If it means more to you, though, definitely speak up. “Hey, I’m graduating and V-day is this week…could we do something special to celebrate?” Who could say no to that?

And congrats on graduating, by the way!

I’m in a long distance relationship, so I’ll be alone on Valentine’s Day and, as a bonus, I get to hand in two papers that day.  So, needless to say, I’m not exactly looking forward to the 14th.

UGH!  Valentine’s Day practically gives me diarrhea!  I know I won’t get a ring, so let’s just skip that day on the calendar!  Lol.

I am a massage therapist and it’s our busiest day of the year.  So I’m working a double that day.  I doubt if SO will even get me a gift.  I’m kind of anti-Hallmark holidays.

I did get SO Pink Floyd tribute band tickets for V day though!  ๐Ÿ˜›

Count me in as not looking forward to it.  It’s a work day so I’ll be burying myself in work.

When I was in a long distance relationship, I would always go out with one of my single girlfriends on Valentine’s Day. We’d go get Mexican and drink margaritas. I loved it and honestly I even miss those days a little.

Now that I am in a “normal” relationship, Valentine’s Day still isn’t a big thing. In fact, I would be a little freaked out if my boyfriend proposed on Valentine’s Day with all the Hallmark cards and cheap chocolates and giant teddy bears. It’s not really my thing at all. My boyfriend and I are exchanging some cheap presents (I bought him a dorky t-shirt and some comic books and he ordered me some chocolate covered strawberries), and maybe making dinner at home. Don’t let the day get to you. It’s really not worth getting upset over.

And also, congratulations on your graduation! I have to say, graduation was a very stressful time for me (this was in 2009) for the same reasons you mention: finding a job. I had the worst anxiety, insomnia, heartburn, you name it. It was terrible. But I did find a job and that is where I met my current boyfriend. ๐Ÿ™‚ You never know what life has in store for you so stay strong and be very persistent.

SO and I never make a big thing out of Valentine’s day and the only reason I am looking forward to it this year is because we’re going out for Indian food, and I always look forward to things that involve a good curry! Hahah.

For me I never set my expectations too high for these sort of events, I just let things happen and go with the flow.

Lol you are not alone. I have Valentines. I planned the first 2 we had. He dplanned last year (and I can’t remember what we did so clearly nothing much) and I told him to romance me this year. Well he bought flowers a week early cause he FORGOT what day it was and I FOUND them myself. I asked if he had reservations or anything, nope. It will be another bad valentines because he lacks a romance gene and I will be disappointed. I expect it.

So we can both come back to this thread and see who wins the prize of most boring V Day lol.

we never really celebrate valentine’s day…this year he has to work during the day, and as soon as he comes home I have to go to school at night :/ but we are going to go out to a movie next weekend to make up for it.

I know “it” isn’t going to happen on V Day either.  He said no holidays and honestly he would think a vday proposal was tacky.  It is just another day.  I’m sure he will get me a sweet card and flowers and that is good enough for me.  I’d rather not make a big deal out of Vday.

I have mixed emotions. I love Valentine’s Day and I always have. Always! It’s fun for us, we always have dinner or make dinner. I get dolled up ๐Ÿ™‚ He buys me chocolates, mmmm! We do show our love all year round BUT we always just try to do something special for it. I have a feeling deep down that I’m 99% sure I won’t get a ring on Tuesday. And that’s okay BUT I would be lying if I didnt have a little 1% voice saying that “maybe he’ll do it on this holiday!” That voice is hard to silence, but my hopes aren’t UP let’s just say that. It would be AWESOME though ๐Ÿ™‚

i’ve always just used valentines as an excuse to eat lots of chocolate and make fun desserts for my friends. this year, it looks like i’ll be most likely pulling an all-nighter working on a project due the next morning. woopie.

SO and i have been fairly apathetic regarding valentines this year…i’m hoping that we’ll get to go on a date sometime this week, but i’m going to be so busy preparing for the weekend, when i’ll be going out of town. maybe next valentines day we’ll get it right. XD
