Me! I was worried when I first got it. But my friends were like, “Psh, please. Diamonds are super resiliant and platnium is too. It scratching against your fabric is NOT going to hurt it.”

@foreverperpetua:

I was going to suggest insurance, but I know what you mean about wanting the exact stone!

I for some reason am not paranoid at all! I wear mine ALL the time. Sometimes I take it off when I do my hair, or if my Fiance bugs me about how I shouldn’t be swimming in it  (lol), but generally I always have it on.

Diamonds are extremely durable and I guess I feel confident that mine is securly set, and IF something were to happen to it I guess I would be okay with replacing the stone. I certainly wouldn’t want to, but it wouldn’t be the end of the world to me. I really want to have the same ring forever, but changing the stone wouldn’t bother me as much.

Maybe take it to a jeweler and have them check that everything is very secure??

Sorry for yelling, but GET YOUR RINGS INSURED!!!!!!  Trust me, you never know what may happen!  I had a freak accident with mine, my dogs ate them!  I was able to retrieve the diamond actually, but bizarre things can happen.  I would be less worried about your stone chipping, there’s probably little chance of that, but stones can fall out.  It can get lost.  It can be stolen.  Why would you be willingly unprepapred for something to happen to something that means so much to you? Seriously, get it insured.  Your ring is gorgeous, btw!

Girl get insurance because if your ring is gonna break (diamond, band, prongs) it will break and there is Nothing you can do about it. I have hit my e-ring on everything. I am dead serious I have yanked it, banged it, slammed it in doors/drawers (with my fingers) and dropped it more times then I can count. Just live and enjoy it.

@GelaMac:  I totally agree.  I wear mine nearly all the time.  I just don’t sleep in it because I swell in my sleep sometimes and it’s uncomfortable.  Wear your ring, enjoy it, and don’t stress.  So many people wear their rings 24/7 for years and they are fine!  I can’t recommend insurance enough though, in the unlikely event you experience a loss of the stone and/or ring, you won’t be out thousands of dollars!  Wear you ring freely, but protect the investment 🙂

Though diamonds and platinum are super resilient, I would still be careful with the ring to some degree. My ring has both diamonds and platinum and is hand-set and guaranteed for life, so I have a lot of confidence in its integrity, but even our jeweler has said that people do some crazy things with their rings and with enough pressure and force, diamonds and platinum can be damaged. For example, he said one person came back in with a badly bent ring as she wore it while moving. So I think normal bumps and taps against your desk/car/etc. is generally okay, but I wouldn’t wear it while doing anything arduous.

FWIW, he said my ring looks really really good and that i’ve taken care of it. Honestly, I don’t think I do anything differently compared to my other jewelry.

@lilbluebird:  I agree with that, too.  When I say, “wear it freely” I mean within logical reason!  I don’t wear it when I do strength training workouts, though that’s mainly for comfort over anything else!  I think it’s common sense to not wear it when you are doing specifically strong things with your hands where it might get damaged.  But for all intents and purposes, you should wear it worry-free for everyday life.

I am so paranoid about my ring! I don’t know why…there is no reason to be, but everytime I accidently hit it against something the whole world stops (in my mind) and I inspect it very closely. LOL!

I am so careful with my ring! Its not a diamond, Its moisannite, so its not quite as hard, but pretty close. Everyday, I check the ring for damages, i will flip it inside my hand while I am packing my backpack or walking around on campus to keep from hitting it, and i wont even think about wearing it while i am doing dishes, cleaning, cooking, etc. Finacially, it would not be a big deal to replace if it were to break, but emotionally, I would be devasted if anything happened to it!

here is my ring 🙂 [It is very dirty in this picture, Its before i found out that dawn was safe to clean it with]

Have the ring scheduled on your insurance policy, take it off when you bathe and don’t worry about it.  I get loving your ring but don’t be silly, the very prospect of walking around with a chipped stone out of sentimentality is preposterous.  I knocked mine clean out of the setting, found it on the floor and had it reset, shit happens, especially to jewelry….

I’m super paranoid about mine. Even my jeweler said I’m way too careful with it and to just  enjoy it. Mine’s insured and under warranty, so I’m fully protected, but that hasn’t helped me be any more relaxed. Maybe one day.

im a bit paranoid about both damaging it and getting it dirty.

so i take it off in the shower (as i heard that soap buildup can dull the stone but maybe its not true) and when washing up. and in the sea. not that im often in the sea but still (i worry that somehow rough waves will knock it off hahaha)

i always take it off when cooking with raw meat/chicken…as i keep thinking itll get all bacteria-y and be a “salmonella ring”

I get very Paranoid with mine 🙁 I only have had it for 2 months and I am a hairstylist so I am always worried about products and banging it up against my dryer or when washing off color. I did get It Insured and I try not to wear it often to work. If i do wear it to work my jeweler Explain the best thing to clean a ring use  a Extra soft toothbrush and Dawn soap. It actually works amazing better then Jewelry Cleaner. I never seen my ring sparkle so much like it does when i clean it :). I still try not to wear it much but honestly Get that ring Insured ladies. I also live in Chicago and take Public transportation, you just never know what might happen .
