@HannahHill93:  I bought my weddind dress at http://www.milanoo.com and I had no problem with it. I also paid extra to have custom fit. This only means that the dress won’t be too long on me since I’m only 5’1. Once I received the dress I had a wedding dress seamstress fit the dress to my body for a better fit. I also recommended this site to someone who was looking for a prom dress and she was happy with it.

I’m currently going through fabulous U for my dress fushopping.com they are also on facebook. Although i still haven’t got my dress nor any pictures i am calm!. They are very fast to respond and will not ship out your gown till you are 100% happy. I have been working with Tony for the past month or so for my custom gown. Hope this helps a little.

I ordered mine from lightinthebox.com. It was well made and everything, but I had to take it to a seamstress for more alterations and changes to the dress, although I ordered it with my own custom measurements. I’m actually very happy with the dress. I mean, either way I’d have to alter a dress anyway whether I’d buy it online or in the bridal shop, and I still saved a ton of money. I’m having some appliques sewed on tomorrow, so after that’s done I’d love to post a picture.

I have heard a lot of nice things about Dressilyme though. I actually wish I would have gone with dressilyme or jasmine’s bridal instead. I’m sure a lot of bees here have a lot of helpful reviews 🙂

I heard that dressilyme.com dress quality didn’t look as nice as it does in there pictures. Don’t have personal experience from them, but I just randomly read that here within this past week so thought I’d share that thought.

Am I the only one who finds ordering a dress that has been designed by someone else from one of these websites to be more than verging on unethical? I understand taking inspiration photos to a dressmaker, but taking a dress design and saying, “I really like this one, but I don’t want to spend that amount of money on it, so I’m going to have it made overseas,” doesn’t that seem just a little wrong to anyone else?

@LadyMonster:  Sometimes its not a matter of not wanting to spend the money, its not having the money. Most women don’t have the means to drop thousands of dollars on a gown. Why begrudge them the opportunity to wear a dress similar to what they wanted but could not afford?

Im going to buy a dress from dressilyme becauwharf what I’ve been researching!

Firstly Most designer dresses are made oversea (China) anyway. Yet you buy a dress from a bridal shop of course they are going to charge you 100% more than the dress actual cost because that’s retail!

Secondly I live in Australia so everything are expensive here even beauty products they double the price of what you pay in America! Again I try to save by buying online from oversea website but befor I buy I usually go to department stores to try out products first to see if I like it or not and same again with awedding dress I will try to find the style that fits me and make sure I reallylike the dress then I’ll buy it online! Yet I know it won’t be 100% exact like the designer that I tried on at the shop but at least it’s 90% cheaper than retail price tag! I think it’s up to your own opinion where and $$ you want to spend on a dress and if you’re happy paying retail price tag than good for you but not everyone can afford retail price tag!  Same with everything else there are high end and low end products and not everyone can afford high enDs! Sorry if my comment sound harsh I’m nodirect lying this at anyone in personal just my honest opinion and just giving examples!

@LisaMonster: Well, I don’t want an exact replica of anything. I just want something which looks really cool, and which is inspired by various aspects of different designer gowns. Designers influence what we wear in all sorts of ways… Marc Jacobs inspires the High Street to produce clothes which have aspects of his work, for example, and we buy them. Is that unethical? Marc himself is inspired by vintage clothes. Should he credit the original people, even though the finished article is not like theirs? I don’t actually like the original dress my gown is based on very much. I like the “copy” though.

OP: Refer you to my thread. I’ve got really into reading all these threads about Chinese dresses on here lately (read: obsessively… sorry!)

I bought my dress from Dressilyme and I love it!  I actually didn’t know they are all replicas until I read reviews on the Bee about them.  I just picked a dress i knew would look good on me, because I tried on ball gowns in person, and went with it.  i came from a welfare family and have an annual salary below $30,000 a year. If not for the China dresses, I wouldn’t have been able to get a wedding dress at all.

I got a dressilyme dress because it was all I could afford. Not everyone has the luck to be in a situation where they have parental help, or really good jobs. My dad was an abusive addict, and after my mum left him, she had to raise three kids on her own. She did a great job and all of us have decent jobs and pay our bills, but she’s still working at a PO barely making min wage and while I have a pretty decent job as a Financial Admin at a college, and i barely make 30 grand a year. Fiance and I are paying and saving for everything ourselves, but there is just no way that I could afford anything more than a few hundred for a dress.

If someone can afford a designer dress, then they’re going to get one.  If someone can’t afford it, (and quite a few of us can’t), then the online sites are an amazing alternative.  I don’t think we should have to wear white walmart gowns just because we’re less fortunate.  And we’re not taking away from the designers at all, because we could never afford it anyways!

@LadyMonster:  Sure, there are lots of threads on this topic.

@HannahHill93:  if you search for dressily me, there are lots of threads from bees who purchased there and have given reviews. They are mostly positive. Or search for knock off dresses, chinese dresses, etc.
