no regrets and i would do it again in a heartbeat but there is another bee here that does and she is redoing her vows so each person is different

what i loved was the zero stress involved – zero!   we did not invite any other person so it was just us. we also mailed out “message in a bottle” announcements (we eloped to a tropical island so the bottles where a good theme) at the airport and the response we got was everyone loved them.  we also had a big catered lunch at home about 10 weeks later (for a fraction of the cost of a wedding btw) and that has kept everyone happy

edit: oh i will say his greek mum has said “i never saw my first son get married” but shes greek – everything is a tragedy and considering her other son had a quickie wedding with an asian girl with visa issues followed by a sit on the floor/pillow reception where there was 6 of our side and 80 of her side (we were told we couldnt have any more than 6) then she is learning to suck it up as im the good daughter in law 🙂

Hubs and I wished we would have forgone the small ceremony and getaway weekend we did with our family and did what we wanted, courthouse, dinner and night out on town with our friends and family (our version of eloping). We put a lot of time and effort into making sure everyone had a great time only to come out w/drama from a family member of mine that has ruined it a bit. Also if we would have done what we wanted we would not be hearing how we need to bow down to certain people bc they helped pay for it. Long story, already posted on it on the newleywed board, check it out if you want to read about the drama….argh!

My husband and I, according to all family members said we eloped, that we did not tell anyone, that we just headed off to Vegas.  Well geez this was the farthest from the truth.  We told everyone!

This was 30 years ago!!

Good luck!

We will have a small courthouse ceremony once our visa is approved. Kind of an elopement and then a wedding next summer with friends and family. We’re still a little torn about the bigger wedding but it seems that after all we are going through right know a nice celebration will be appreciated. Part of me would be sad not to share with everyone but it just look like a lot of work and It would be our second wedding planning in two years since our August 2009 wedding got cancel due to visa issues.

Do what makes you feel better now if you have regrets later you can always fix it.
