ohdarling :  I wore like 3-4″ inch heels, but my dress was short so my shoe choice was important. I don’t regret wearing them because they looked great, but my feet definitely hurt at the end of the day. We were standing A LOT though, we were at the courthouse and probably stood for about an hour waiting to be called, then we walked around the city for a couple hours doing photos. By the time we got to the restaurant for our dinner I was dying to take them off.

Could you wear the high heels for photos and then change into something more comfortable for dancing?

ohdarling :  I agree that heels can make for really pretty pictures but most people won’t be able to see them.

I had a courthouse wedding but I wore all white slip on Vans and it was the best decision ever. Vans are my favorite shoe and made me feel more comfortable. We took some really cute pics because we were actually both wearing Vans.

Could you wear heels and take a few pics and then change into a lower heel or flat later?

Agreed with PP.

I wore 4 inch heels for photos and changed into flats during the reception.

I wore ~4″ heels but I wore wedges and I think that is what made the difference. They were so comfortable! Either way I agree with the PPs here – stash some flats somewhere just in case. I didn’t end up needing to swap out might shoes, but I think having an option is always the best idea.

One thing to think about is the hem length. If you hem it to the right length for heels then change to flats it will drag and trip you and get dirty. If you hem for flats it’ll look funny short with 4 inch heels. Maybe go for low heels you’ll want to keep on all night and save the tall heels for your honeymoon?

ohdarling :  I wore fairly short heels with the intention of wearing them all day. They were fine, but honestly before the reception i slipped on some slippers my mom got me last second to throw in a goodie bag she made for me and OMG sooo comfy, i wore them the rest of the night for my dances and all lol.

No one could tell what i had on underneath.

I wore 4 inch heels that I am absolutely in love with. I wore them for photos and the ceremony but the took them off and changed into sandals right after that because my feet hurt and I didn’t want to dance with them. No one saw my sandals, so it wasn’t a big deal to switch. I kept my heels and sandals by the head table so no one saw me switch into the heels once again mid-reception when my husband and I went back outside for sunset photos.

I wore 3.5″ cork wedges with a 1.3″ platform. I bought and glued the crystals on myself and stood almost the entire time during our reception. My heels were a bit sore after 5ish hours, but my feet didn’t hurt like they would have in pumps or something with greater pitch.

my heels had a little platform in front so the height was less dramatic. they might have been 3in or so heels.  the shoes themselves were very comfortable.  i wore them to a wedding the month before mine to break them in.  i danced all night without taking them off.

ohdarling :  Thanks! I really love to strass with Swarovski.

I’m only 5-foot in height, as well. I have really tall 4″ and 5″ heels, but I didn’t want to have to switch shoes because of the hem issue. My husband is 6′ 2″, so I initially thought I would need to be in at least 4″ heels, but then he said he wanted us to look like our normal selves. And I found 3.5″ was just fine.

ohdarling :  I didn’t have any issues with the difference in heel heights.

I got my dress hemmed to my flats and I don’t think it looked funny with my heels on.  I thought it was great since you actually got to see my shoes LOL

I kicked off my 4″ heels halfway through the ceremony because I wasn’t having it. People got a good laugh and my Maid/Matron of Honor picked them up for me during the recessional. She’s a saint 🙂

I wore heels for the ceremony and wedges for the reception. If I were to do it over, I would not bother with the heels. My wedges were just as pretty and super comfortable.
