Here is my ring story:
1. Young and broke, spent about $1500 on a moissanite ring and didn’t insure it.
2. Lost that ring, my fiancé insisted on buying a replacement. That was about $1800 because platinum prices had gone up.
3. Several years later, moissanite quality had gone way up (my original stones were the kind that are so gray they aren’t sold anymore) so I spent about $1000 to upgrade to better moissanite.
4. After my second pregnancy, my fingers never stopped swelling, and the thick band of my ring was so uncomfortable that I never wore it anymore. So, got a thinner, lighter band, and AGAIN upgraded to a nicer moissanite because the technology improved. This one set us back about $1500.
After all of that I do feel ridiculous about all of the upgrades and replacements. If I had foreseen some of this stuff (like fingers changing after pregnancy) I would have just done a $50 CZ ring for the first few years. I absolutely love what I have now and won’t upgrade again, so all is well, but I do cringe at what we spent. (And what we failed to insure.)
