I’m thinking about having my engagement ring re-set (the current setting is pretty plain and too modern for my taste), and it occurred to me that I might want to have it re-set so that it looks like a diamond and not a square.
I thought that re-mounting my princess-cut solitaire so that it has a diamond orientation might look unique and more vintage-y, especially when paired with the kind of wedding band I want.
To give you an idea of the type of wedding band I’m considering, I’m attaching two pictures of Cathy Waterman rings (love her work so much!!):
Has anyone seen a princess-cut solitaire mounted in a diamond orientation instead of a square, or done it yourself? And if so, would love to see pics!

I’m certain I’ve seen a ring like you’re describing here on the Bee and it was really pretty, but I have no idea who posted it or how to go about finding the image. Hopefully someone posts some pics for you!

My original engagement ring was a 1 ct princess cut set like that. It is called kite set because it look like a kite (duh). I liked it but wanted to go to a round.

Ahh – thank you! Now that I know it’s called a kite set, I’m finding all sorts of pictures!
Just found this thread here on Weddingbee: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/any-other-kite-settingcompass-setting-e-rings

The side stones in my ring are set sideways. Sometimes it’s also called a star set, or a compass set as well as a kite set

Artcarved has bands similar to the 2nd one you posted. http://artcarvedbridal.com/productcontent.do?cid=61&cid1=56&cid2=61&all=true#
I LOVE the top rings you posted, SO pretty!

@NanaimoBar: That first ring is STUNNING and I would like it on my finger now!
I remember Shane Co when we were looking late last year had a few rings with settings like that, maybe look at what they offer?

Ooh…I LOVE the wedding bands you have picked out! They are beautiful (and unique!!) I think a kite set diamond would look really pretty in that kind of a set! I especially love the first set, with the bands on both sides…WOW!!!
My engagement ring is a 1ct. kite-set princess cut from Kay Jewelers. My husband had to special order it, but they were really helpful with that and it wasn’t a problem. I’d never heard of having a diamond set this way until I saw my engagement ring, and I love it because it is a bit different. My husband says it suits me because I’m his “crooked princess”. Teehee. Anyways, I bet if you just go talk to the jeweler you got it from, it wouldn’t be a problem. 🙂
Here’s mine with my wedding band….
