We were thinking of setting up an account at flikr or snapfish or something equivalent just for the wedding. We would then pass out the username and password to guests and encourage them to upload their digital photos, so we could have a copy and guests could see each others photos. I know I’ve heard of it before, but has anyone actually tried it in real life? Do you think people will participate? Would you, if you were a guest? (This would just be to supplement our pro photographer, not to replace that. So even if we didn’t get any, we wouldn’t be broken up about it…)

My wedding isn’t until June 26th but we are attaching a card to our programs that we got business cards from vista print that give our guests information for a flickr account we set up just for the wedding 🙂 I hope it works! I think the younger crowd will be into it!

@sulli- we’re doing the free vistaprint card too! There was one that matched our decor perfectly 🙂

Yeah vistaprint cards! My friends have done this for their weddings, and I’ve participated and they’ve gotten a pretty good response. I wouldn’t count on it for all my pictures, but for a supplement, it’s awesome!
We’ve been debating about which site to use, and I just decided yesterday that we’ll be making a picassa account, because 1)a lot of our friends already use it 2)they don’t compress your pictures so you can download them at full resolution and 3)they let you upload pictures by email. This way, instead of usernames and passwords (some posters got me concerned about pranksters changing the password on us, or people deleting pictures by accident) all people have to do is send an email to the address we give them, with the photos as an attachment.

We did this at Shutterfly, and put a note about it in the programs. Not sure hoe successful it will be, but we figured it was worth a try, especially for free!

I would totally do it as a guest. We’re doing this and plan to use Flickr, like many of the Bees have.

I second (or fourth?) the vistaprint business cards. Mine just came in the mail and they look very nice (especially when you consider you get 250 for about $5 or whatever shipping was) I’m planning on setting some out on the guestbook table so guests can just slip them in their pockets, and also tucking them in with the thank you notes just to give everyone a friendly reminder about it once the day is over (250 is wayyy too many so we might as well make sure everyone gets atleast one)
I made a photobucket account for us- I like that they have an iphone app that sends you an update anytime the account gets updated and lets you view and edit albums right away. But I like the feature of picassa accounts that ChiCat mentioned of guests being able to email a photo to an album. Maybe I would have done that had I known, but I’m familiar with photobucket.
ETA: you’re getting married on my birthday! what a great day!
