My original date was 10/6/12 (had to move it a week earlier due to venue restrictions), and I already have my tenative guest list compiled. I think it is smart to start early so you have an idea of how much you need to budget for various things and booking a venue. I booked my venue last week so I could garuntee I would get the one that I really wanted. Good luck in your planning!

@missapis: I’m getting married in seven weeks and I second what you said!! I waited too long to compile a guest list and reality slapped me in the face when I started talking to a caterer!

I did – I started with the “everyone and their mother” list and then started cutting.

I’m very happy I did it this way, I was able to state my case back to the parents why certain people were being cut.  I also HIGHLY recommend sitting with your Fiance, discussing exactly what you want, and then having a “family meeting” with the parents and making these requirements clear.  One set of parents in my wedding were involved financially, the other was not, and I didn’t want any hurt feeling across the board for either one.  Best thing we could have done, and they really understood this was OUR day (my parents were not an issue……his were).

@missapis: I couldn’t agree with you more. As soon as we picked a date I started the guest list… and lets just say it has been “revamped” atleast three or four times now. (However I did go from 200 people and finally got it down to 134, and we are paying to have 140 persons at the wedding and reception) So I’m glad I have 6 maybe slots now. Cool

We got a guest list right away.  We needed to know how many people because certain venues only hold a limited number of people.  After having a guesstimate-guestlist we were able to narrow down the venues we could visit.  We were limited in venues because of the possible number of guests.  It’s a good idea to get one right away – even if it changes.

I wanted to, but J told me that I was nuts basically.  I secretly began composing one though.  I should start working on it again.

I’ve had a guest list since before we were engaged.  i was curious to see what our count would be.

The very first thing we did was whip out the list and edit till we came up with a number we were both comfortable with.  This of course is subject to change, and has already due to a number of our friends breaking up with or beginning to date new people.

This was essential for us to do so we could find a venue that would be okay with our numbers.

We are planning for September 2012 and I definitely have a guest list started. The amount of guests you include effects every other decision you make so I don’t think your jumping the gun at all.

We just got engaged this weekend and officially have a date! Hooray!

October 13th, 2012!!!

I’m a little wedding-planning-happy and so I have had the guest list tentatively mapped out for about 3 months, just in case 😉 (If I weren’t going to be a chiropractor when I graduate, I would become a wedding planner for sure!)

Of course, we still have finalizing to do. I tried to get everyone from his side that would be important and he has only glanced at the list once, but he already said I got everyone. I find that a little hard to believe so I will be consulting Future Mother-In-Law pretty soon!

So excited for all of us Oct. 2012 brides to be getting started! This is fun! Whee!

We’re either getting married October 2012 or Spring 2013 and we asked parents for a rough guest list.  We made one when we first got engaged and we were convinced our final guest list would be between 230-250 MAX.  Good thing I talked to my parents.. I left off a lot of people they would like to invite.. So, now we’re looking @ 400+  eeks!  This is MUST have info when looking at venues.  Some venues have a food+beverage minimum (need more guests) and many spaces have a set maximum number they can accommodate.

In my case, we were SET on a certain venue (I was obsessed), but after looking at our prelim guest list we realize that it’s not possible.. better to find out sooner rather than later.

Haha not at all!! We’ve been engaged for almost two months now and really the only thing I’ve done so far is get my dress ….. and start the guest list! He thinks we need to pick the venue to decide how many we can invite but I say we need to pick our guest list so we know how big of a venue we need! And btw we are playing around with dates of either March/April or august of next year, we don’t even have a set date!

@WineAndCupcakes: I’m from SJ too!  PM me if you want info on venues.. Fiance and I have done some pretty extensive research on midsize to large venues

For what it’s worth, I’m on your side.. you need to figure out a rough guest number before you look @ venues.  Many of the bay venues require a sizable deposit..  I would hate to be stuck either not inviting important guests or losing a deposit.

@CaliforniaLove:

haha thank you!! I think I’m going to have to show your post to FH 😉 I’ll definitely PM you, though we’re still not sure whether we’re doing a Bay Area wedding or down in Santa Barbara, since we lived in Ventura for 3 years and most of his family is there. (Mine is all in FL, so to them it’s apples and oranges!) Ps sorry for the spacing being weird, I’m on my iPad and I can’t figure out how to keep it from doing that *sheepish grin*

@CaliforniaLove:

I just noticed something that made me literally lol. You and I have our “wedding dates” set one week apart, but we are both thinking about getting married later. He wants to shoot for Spring 2012, but since we’re bank rolling most of it ourselves, I think Fall 2012 or Spring 2013 is what we’re going to end up doing. And yikes at your guest list, sorry!!
