Most PMS symptoms I hear about seem to be cramps or mood issues, so I’m wondering who else has headaches/nausea.
I’m in my mid-thirties and have had PMS headaches for years, on and off BC pills. I’ve been on my natural cycle for years now, and the headache starts anytime from two days before the first day of my period to two days after. Usually it’s the day before, the day of, or the next day. It’s not a terrible pain, but it’s crippling enough to make work/chores very difficult to do. I also have nausea sometimes. The whole ordeal lasts about 12 hours and OTC medications do not help.
Anyone else with headache/nausea symptoms? If yes, how do you cope/treat them?
One day a month, I can not wait for menopause : )

@PeachRooibos: I really run the gammit of symptoms of PMS. I get pre and post period headaches, cramps, crippling fatigue, and mood swings. It’s not pretty. 🙂

I get headaches at the end of the placebo week in my BC pack due to the drop in estrogen. My doctor is having me try seasonique to see if that lessens it, I hope it does! She also said I could try estrogen patches for those days, but I’d prefer not to go that route.

My hormone fluctuations trigger arthritis flare ups in my neck that causes severe headaches. A good chiropractor helps a lot.

I’m currently dealing with a headache and near immobilising cramps.
On the weekends, I try to stay in a cool, dark room and snuggle with my SO. Week days, I’m not so lucky – I’m a Nanny so three screaming children definitely don’t help the situation. I’m also really paranoid about taking pain relief for head related pain so I basically just suck it up and try not to die.
The only reason I welcome my period is because it means I’m not pregnant.

I have the WORST PMS headaches. NOTHING makes them go away. I had a hysterectomy in 2011 and I *STILL* get PMS headaches once a month. My physician offered me birth control but that never helped before and I feel ridiculous taking them without!
The only medicine that kind of helped was butalbital and it is a non-narcotic but it has barbituates in it.
I even tried medicines like Imitrex or Topamax (Headache preventative) but they never worked and the side effects were weird.

ugh, yes. it’s been a while since i’ve had a really bad pms headache, but for a while it was happening every month for about 3-4 months. it was horrible and no matter what, it wouldn’t go away until i started my period.
i also get really bad nausea from time to time. sometimes it’ll just come in waves, like i’ll feel sick for a few mins/hours and it goes away, but other times it’ll last for 2-3 days. one time i was staying with my aunt for thanksgiving and i started my period on thanksgiving day. it was the worst. the whole house smelled like food and i spent the whole weekend trying not to barf. i drink ginger ale or 7-up and that usually helps, but when it’s really bad, nothing works.
