I don’t have experience with this, but I did a quick Google, and it sounds like something that needs to be approached with caution and research. There’s a risk of contamination. There’s also a risk of malnutrition.

My vet calls dry food kitty crack especially the grocery store variety. It is so bad for animals.

The biggest problem when switching an animal that has been raised on dry food to raw food is that they can develop GI issues. Normally their GI health is so poor due to having been feed dry food only that it can be a very long and slow process to get them to a raw food only diet. Stomach upsets are common. I think you need to speak to a vet that can guide you through the process.

You just have to take it slow and also relaise that raw food doesn’t mean human food. Replacing dry food which is full of perservatives and additives for human food that is full of those things (meats with added hormones and perspectivites/additives etc).

Your animals probably wont be too impressed at first either. It will take awhile for them to change their views as well.

We switched our dog from kibble to raw no problem.  We were advised to fast for a day so the kibble gets out of their system then feed them small bits of raw all day to get them used to it. We had no issues and she’s been great ever since. We do however use pre made raw which has already been made into a mostly balanced dog diet and we ad kelp, fish oil and tripe to complete the diet. It takes a bit of research and time to get a system going but the difference in our dog is incredible! We had her on a high quality kibble and found if we buy in bulk it costs a little less every month than kibble!  I reccomend it for sure but you have to do some research about what’s needed for cats and what’s available in your area!

My cats ate 75% raw… But I didn’t feed it to them, they ate whatever they caught outside! And in summer, they occasionally went days or even a week or two without touching their dry food.

So I can’t really help, except to say that my cats on a raw diet never had a problem… But they were eating VERY fresh meat. No processing!

@FutureMrsJohnson_:   That sounds like a very balanced diet! Sounds like a lot of work too lol but definitely worth it for healthy kitties.  I bet they go crazy for it!

I want to but I just don’t have the patience.  I feed my dog Orijen and he’s extremely healthy.
