I have a few questions regaurding things to do once we get there.
Can we book things such as horseback rides, mayan tours, spa treatments, etc once there or should we do that ahead of time?
Also can we/ should we make reservations for resturants before arriving?
Is it best to book through secrets website or through orbitx, expedia, or American express?
thanks for any info.

We just booked our Secrets Maroma Beach honeymoon for October. I cannot answer all your questions since I haven’t been there yet, but I do know a couple things.
Yes you can book excursions once you get to the resort. Many times they are cheaper to do ahead of time though.
As far as where to book. We booked through cheapcarribean.com and got a GREAT rate (cheaper than any of the other sites or what we could have gotten through our travel agent). The site came highly recommended so we weren’t worried about it.

@Gilde37:Thanks for the info. From what I have found Orbitz has the cheapest prices for the dates we need. I just need to find out from SO if we want to go ahead and book excursions now or wait until we get there.

I would love to do the mayan tour, horseback ride, zipline, and sail to Isle Mujerus?
I also really want a couples massage on the beach.
Does anyone have any advice on where we should book these through?

We spent a week there in September. Book the tours ahead of time. There are tons of reputable copanies in the area that offer packages with all the things you want to do. Just look on tripadvisor for reviews.
There’s no need to book restaurant reservations ahead of time. What I will suggest is if you want to go to the spa, book your appointment the first day you get there.
PM me if you have any more questions.

I went there last year on vacation. I would agree with Meowkers in booking your spa treatments the first day. They are a little pricey, but soooooooo worth it! I think I went 3 or 4 times.
As for the tours, book them in advance it’ll be easier. Although they have reps from all the tour operators on site usually each day, so booking once you’re there wouldn’t be an issue, unless of course it’s sold out.
Also, you’ll probably get a better price through expedia, etc… but sometimes the secret’s website has special promos (free night, etc.) so keep an eye on that 🙂
I wouldn’t bother with the VIP upgrade. You don’t really get anything other than a special room you can hang out in with the other VIPs.
Make a reservation for the Japanese restaurant (Himitsu?) to sit at the Teppanyaki table. It’s such a good show! This books up very fast.
You’ll have an awesome time! Seriously… Best. Beach. Ever!

My husband and I went there for our honeymoon this past June. It was amazing! The only restaurant you need to make reservations for is Himitsu. We ended up not eating there because of that. Every other restaurant we had no problem getting into.
We booked our excursions once we got there and had no problems. We did the Mayan tour which was really cool. We also looked into ziplining but decided we wanted to spend more time on the resort.
We also did the upgrade and I still havent decided if it was worth it. There were some cool things that we got but honestly we did not use the special lounge at all. It was nice to have our own concierge though. He was very helpful.
We booked our spa visits our first day and I would say thats important because they do fill up quickly. It is so worth it! We did a couples massage and spent the majority of the day in the spa area. It was so wonderful.
We booked through Secrets so I am not sure as to the best place to book through but I felt as though the price was incredibly reasonable for how beautiful it was.
*Tip: They will tell you that you can brush your teeth with the resort water. Do not do this! I learned the hard way!

Thanks for all of the info bees. I am so excited to book our honeymoon here. I can’t wait to go. I am thinking about not doing the mayan tours as we don’t want to spend a whole day on something like that.
I would love to the the horseback ride and maybe the zipline. I am def going to take advantage of the spa!!!
