You can make your own for free with a clean sock as long as you don’t mind cutting the toe off of your sock! πŸ™‚

Its the only way I can put my own hair in a bun and it works really well… and its cheaper than the Hot Buns. Here is a link that shows you how easy it is http://www.beautylish.com/a/vcvzi/how-to-sock-bun

@Polaris:  pretty much the only way i do my hair anymore! i love my sock bun, and i get tons of compliments on it at work for looking “sophisticated” (and i’m pretty style inept :p)

@Lily_of_the_valley:  I usually just use a few bobby pins. I’ve never had my bun fall out.. even after falling asleep with it in once.

@MissElizabeth:  I love it too! Its easy so I can be lazy but still look like I put effort into it. πŸ˜‰

I’ve never used this, or have had my hair like this, but a lot of my students wear their hair like this with a sock,a nd it lasts all day long even through gym and recess

@Lily_of_the_valley:  Haha, I just put one of these in my hair for work πŸ™‚

The ones I use are from eBay and they are just sponges… Here is the example of the colours and sizes they come in:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Girls-Hair-Bun-Donut-Ring-Sponge-Shaper-Maker-Builder-3-Sizes-Beige-Coffee-Black-/281001912209?pt=AU_Women_Accessories&var&hash=item416d04e791&_uhb=1

I have dirty blonde hair, so I use the blonde one. It shouldn’t matter what colour your hair bun is though, because you shouldn’t see it with your hair on top of it. There are a few different ways to use it, depending on how messy or neat you want it to look.

I usually just chuck my hair in a ponytail, pull the hair through the donut and then twist  my hair over the top of the donut really messily. Here’s a link that shows exactly how to do it the way I do. It literally takes 2 minutes once I’ve done a neat ponytail.

Once you’ve got that downpat, you can try other styles, making it smoother or neater or little plaits, you can also use the donut to “roll” your hair, making a huge bun. (This is what sock buns are)

I tried using a sock bun after I’d been using my sponge for a while, and I couldn’t do it properly at all and got really frustrated. I think a big sponge works better and it’s not like they are expensive! πŸ™‚

Post pics if you do it πŸ™‚

Check out YouTube for sock bun tutorials. It’s so easy to make one. I wouldn’t pay for this at all, personally!

Agree with PPs – sock bun is the way to go! It’s free (almost – just grab a clean old sock).

I have one. You cant see it at all so it doesn’t matter what color it is…..

It’s really easy! It’s a little complicated the first time you do it but it gets easier. It’s easier if you try it on someone else first so you can understand what you’re doing. The hardest part is fanning the hair back out over it and making sure that’s nice, even and smooth, because that’s the part you’re seeing.

Love it!
