We’re looking to insure my e-ring and wedding band, unfortunately the coverage provided by adding a rider to our home insurance kind of sucks. It only covers theft, not loss or damage – and knowing me loss and damage is what I’m most worried about.
Someone on the bee suggested Jeweler’s Mutual and the coverage looks pretty good. I guess my questions would be:
1. What made you choose Jeweler’s Mutual?
2. Have you ever had to file a claim for a lost or damaged ring?
3. If so, did they replace it or cut you a check for the appraised value?

I know this is way old but I chose it because its stand alone and seems to cover more than my renters insurance did. Like I had to tighten the prongs and it wouldnt cover the cost of tightening but did cover the diamond if they had damaged it which I hear could be really important if you have a princess cut diamond (mine is round.)

I have a Jeweler’s Mutual policy. Haven’t had to use it yet, but seems to cover alot and it’s super affordable.

I just got a Jeweler’s Mutual Policy. I need to get my engagement ring resized and I want to make sure it’s covered in case something happens to the diamonds in the process. Plus, I do lots of traveling and it makes me feel more secure knowing it has its own policy and a specialized group managing it. It’s really easy to set up and really affordable. Best part about it is both my fiance’s and I’s separate addresses can be listed on the policy so that makes it even easier to file a claim something happens while I’m visiting him. Definitely recommend it!

@Mrs Christopher: How much does it cost to tighten prongs? I’ve never had that done and just assumed the jeweler you got it from would do it. ?? (list this under things I never knew! ha)

@GFerg: I went back to the jeweler we got the diamond from and so it ended up costing me nothing. I think there is still a limited warantee on it though because we got the prong replacement/repair work there and this happened two months after they did the work.
I inquired with the insurance agent lady before I went though so I knew what was and wasnt covered.
