Wondering if any bees used their DJ as MC instead of asking family/friends to do it?
We’ve been contemplating who to ask, and there’s really no one popping out. We met after university so we don’t have a ton of mutual friends that actually know BOTH of us fairly well (which I know isn’t a huge deal), plus trying to find someone who is comfortable enough to doit, and can keep things clean enough for grandparents/ kids in the audience.. plus, I do think it’s kind of a big request to ask of someone.
So anyone who used a Dj.. what were your experiences? Do you regret it?

I’m planning on having the DJ MC us. All the weddings I’ve been to have been this way. Unless you mean like the speeches and stuff? Our Maid/Matron of Honor and Best Man are going to give speeches, but the DJ will introduce our first dance and things like that.

I’ve never seen anyone but the DJ do the announcements and such.

My friend did for her wedding and we plan to for ours too. Things went very smoothly! They knew when to time everything etc..I think it worked out better then asking someone else who is more likely to get distracted or feel pulled away from enjoying the wedding.

I would feel bad asking a family member or friend to MC. They are there to enjoy themselves.

Thank you for your replies. I think this is one of those weird regional differences.. I think almost all of the weddings I’ve been to have used a family member or friend of the bride and groom, but I’m glad to hear that using the DJ is common practice as well.

Hm I’ve never heard of using friends for MC. I learn some new fun fact every day on the bee. Our DJ did it, it went great!

@futuremrs1986: So much better that way. They’re professionals…that’s what they do!

We did. It was awesome. I didn’t want to tie up any of our friends doing any work for us, and really wanted them to enjoy the reception instead. It was great!

@futuremrs1986: Only DJ’s MC the weddings I’ve been too.

Thank you all for making me feel better about this decision!

Our DJ is a friend of FI’s. He works with a partner, so the plan is for his partner to run all the music while our friend attends as a guest–but he will also be acting as our MC. Of course I’ve never been to a wedding before where the MC was friend/family. It’s always been the DJ as far as I’ve seen.

@futuremrs1986: I went to a wedding where the MC was the DJ. It felt weird to me… like he was a stranger butting in on this family/friends event. However maybe he was just a weirdo in general… plus I was 15 at the time so what do I know!

I’ve never actually been to a wedding where someone else besides the DJ is the emcee.
Our DJ did all of our MC duties and it was great!

+1 to NEVER having seen a family member MC! It really must be regional, I can’t see why anyone would want to MC:)
