Mainly I am just trying to figure out if there is a set practice involved. I’ve posted the comparison pics already but the summary is.. Jeweler and I went back and forth with probably 3 different CAD designs, I did approve the last design, they DID NOT do a wax mold and just went straight into making the ring. The business does do wax molds because they did so for the engagement ring that they made. The CAD pictures showed the bands were flush. For the actual custom ring the bands they are not flush. I was told there were no limitations in manufacturing but then after I received the ring the jeweler made excuses on not being able to make the bands flush/curved because of the recessed diamond details in the side profile of the ring. Of course I went to about 10 other jewelry stores that told me this was a lie especially because I sent them my engagement ring to use during the process to ensure the bands fit. The jeweler offered to remake the custom bands for $600 each (originally charged $1200 for the wedding band) but I will not consider any custom work at this point because I dont want another surprise. They did state that they would be willing to lose some profit on a trade in. Im guessing we paid around 3k for just the custom bands.
The current situation is that I asked them about 3 specific style numbers that were on their website and the assistant checked and said that they do not have them in the store right now but that I could go there to see the other similar designs they have. I live 4 hours away now and the wedding is May 22. Plus I am out of state for training from May 10 to May 20 so my time is limited- so I asked them to send the style numbers or photos of her recommended rings that fit X,Y,Z of my preferences. Yes I know this sounds like a diva move but I started my ring process with them in January so didnt really plan for it to work out like this and truthfully after driving 4 hours each way to pick up that ring I am just not as accomodating to them right now since it would mean taking a day off of work in my new job to drive there.
So I guess specifically- has anyone had similar situations? Im curious if we paid 3k for the bands and they are willing to do a trade in and lose some profit what I should expect to pay out of pocket. The 3 designs I sent them would be $2500 or less therefore less than what we paid for the custom bands. Would it be reasonable to expect to come out of pocket less than 1k for the new set? I have not filed a BBB complaint at the time but am considering it if I am unable to resolve anything through them. As stated previously, I contacted them in January about the wedding band but I received the wedding band on March 28 and immediately pointed out that I had expected a wax mold, CAD design was not an accurate representation, and that I was very unhappy with the final product. I already ordered a CZ for the wedding day just in case. Im a little sad knowing that there would be a ton of pics of a temporary ring but i think thats better than getting a real ring that ends up being temporary and going through that hassle.
