wifeylife:  Usually, you can just email the W2/1099 to the HR rep you’ve been talking to and let him/her know that you can’t reach the 3rd party company regarding the specific request.

In most cases, 3rd party background checks are done to check for criminal background.. if it’s related to verifying your previous/current employment, the HR rep will make note of it and disregard the red flag on the report.

It just depends on how high of a security the job is. I work at a place that has to verify the times you were unemployed. You have to account for every dayfor the last 5-10 years the first time you get into the field. After that the government keeps those records and you only have to account from the tune you leave that job and start at a new place in that line of business. 

If someone can’t verify that you were or weren’t working my field won’t hire you. But they give you several chances to give them contacts to verify your background. 

Give it time. The check can take 2-4 weeks depending on the field you’re trying for.
