I worked from home on Fridays in my last job. I loved it! No commuting, cat on lap, better desk, better coffee, no annoying co-worker chit chat. When I didn’t get the raise I wanted, I negotiated the Fridays from home. However my boss always hated it and I think a lot of bosses secretly become resentful. Even though this schmuck worked from home quite often himself!

Eventually, my working at home on fridays became such a bone of contention that I began coming into the office again on Fridays. Then my boss calmed down and was nicer. I was so annoyed about it though that I ended up getting another job because of it. And in this one, there is no working Fridays from home but I think I’m better off.

Oh, and I am an executive assistant.

Yeah, seriously! It was great while it lasted but I think that a lot of bosses really aren’t ok with it, especially if you are pretty low on the totem pole, like I am. He shouldn’t have allowed it to start with if he really didn’t like t.

I never asked to work at home on Friday in my current job because my new boss volunteered that anyone who works from home is “bullshitting.” At least with him you don’t have to wonder where you stand. I do really miss the Fridays at home though. I used to sneak in all my laundry and chores on the friday so I could actually have the weekend to do fun stuff.

I telecommute and loveeee it! I have been working from home for 2 almost 3 years now.  It is so nice to just go down the stairs into my office and sign into the work computer and slave away.

I do have to go into the office 3 times a month and every 6 months will have to work in the office for a month. So for example work in the office Dec then again in June for a whole month…

I’ve been telecommuting full-time for the last three months (before that, I had the option of working from home once in a while if necessary).

I had trouble with the isolation at first but adjusted to it relatively quickly. Also, since it’s summer, I’ve had a few really rough days with the heat (no AC at home).

But there are also many things I love about it. I have no commute. I can wear anything I want. I can listen to music, without headphones, while working. I get to spend more time with Darling Husband in the evening than I used to. If I want or need to work late or on the weekend, I can do so very easily because all my work is right here.

Overall assessment: I won’t be a telecommuter forever, but I’m trying to enjoy every bit of it while it happens.

@Eva Peron:  My son is in day care per company policy we are not to have children home with us unless another adult is there to take care of them. Which is okay with me. The couple of times he has been home (my mom or my husband watched him) it was a huge distraction.

I work in the healthcare insurance area. I can PM you the name of the company if you like. (they have offices all over the US)

I’m a WAH employee, full time. After working in the office for about 3 years, my company was expanding tremendously but did not want to move our office for bigger space. So the idea was to send employees to work from home, while hiring more new employees in-house for this expansion.

I’ve been working from home for about a year now and I absolutely LOVE IT! I feel like I get more done, fewer distractions  and of course no commute!! The trade off is feeling a bit isolated at times but personally I think the good outweighs the bad.

ETA: I’m a benefit administrator and claims adjuster for an insurance company.
