Iv often thought that! I’m yet to buy my dress but unfortunately for satin that is the main reason iv steered past trying satin dresses, they do appear shiny to me in pics with dodgy flashes! :-/

If you do go with a satin gown make sure your photographer knows, they can use diffused light and limited flash to compensate! Smile

@MrsMagillToBe:  That’s exactly why I picked a dress that wasn’t made of satin. I agree with Jlee28 about the diffused lighting. If they take the pictures with direct flash you’ll end up looking like a ball of light.

Mine is satin but it really isn’t that shiny… not worried about it.

@Jlee28:  +1

This is exactly what I was going to say. Take more daytime photos while it’s still pretty bright outside.

@MlleFabuleux:

Great suggestion!

Yes, definitly a good idea to try shootting in all sorts of light, natural, florescent, low light, and any specialty lighting you plan on having! I will say though if your going with an experience photgropher they shouldnt have any trouble. I NEVER use direct flash in a wedding scenerio it just simply in not flattering!

My dress was satin and in some pics it looks shiny but I don’t think it  looked too shiny really….. but satin is going to have shine….. No hiding that.!!

Don’t worry too much about it and remember you chose your dress for a reason…. I’m sure it’s stunning!

@MrsMagillToBe:  If I was doing a satin (or lustrous silk) dress, I would just make sure most of my photos are taken in natural light and avoid flash photography. Even inside, at night, a good photographer can get away with using the available light without having to resort to flash. If you’re really worried, maybe even consider getting changed into a non-satin dress for the evening portion of your wedding!
