My SO used to keep some stubble on his face. I like it that way, and honestly prefer it to his clean-shaven look. Luckily, so does he. However, every now and then he insists on growing a big beard for maybe six months at a time, even now in the summer. He thinks it is ‘glorious.’ At first I was fine with it, and even found it kind of funny at times. However… I’m getting sooo tired of it! He thinks it makes him look like a man, but I’m telling you it makes him look like a slob now! It’d be one thing if he maintained it, but he barely does. It honestly looks pretty ratty. He knows I don’t like it, but *sigh* he won’t be convinced to shave it. Not to mention he is only 24… I don’t know any other 24 year old with a beard like his! This thing is pretty big!
Other issues with the beard:
-Him eating cereal = not a pretty sight. Imagine milk dribbling down his beard and back into his bowl. Bonus points if he tries to kiss me immediately after, not realizing how wet his beard is.
-If he kisses me anywhere other than my lips, I can’t even feel his. All I feel is itchy hair. Not the best way to get in the mood!
-His beard hair also pokes me in the eye on a regular basis.
Any other bees have an SO who insists on a beard? I’m curious if anyone else’s SO is like this, and if anyone has any beard-related stories (or tips on how I can convince him to do something about it, haha). All in good fun, of course 🙂

My husband has had a beard for several years and he loves it. So do I! He’s insane about keeping it trim and clean though. He also has to keep it this way because of his job at a private school. It looks like this:

Mine has one currently, and while he can pull it off, I much prefer it when he’s clean shaven–or actually, when he has about 2 days stubble. My biggest complaint about the beard is just that he’s not as good about trimming/maintaining it as he is when he’s shaving.
He’s going to be changing jobs soon so he’s going to have to go back to shaving regularly…it’s horrible but I’m SUPER excited lol. He’s handsome no matter what but sometimes he can get a little too mountainman-esque..

Lol– all I could think about while reading your post is “When in the world did I write this?!?”
My husband is the same way– he does the same thing from time to time, he usually keeps a gotee and some cheek stubble, he shaves with an electric one so it leave behind a “5 o’clock shadow” type look which I really like… but the beard is awful!!!
I threaten to shave him in his sleep, and one time I actually almost did it. What finally got his attention was when I told him I didn’t want to kiss him/be intimate because the beard was just too uncomfortable for me. This usually gets him to shave it, but eventually he’ll work his way back around to thinking it’s a good idea.
If you ever come up with a permanent solution let me know!!! 😛

Fiance has had a beard as long as I have known him. 6 years. I can’t imagine him without it. I think he would look so weird. However he is very good about the upkeep and it always looks neat and tidy. Some times it shorter than others, but always neat. He said he wanted to grow a big beard. I said find as long as he trimmed it back before the wedding.

See, I wouldn’t mind a beard like that. I think that’s actually pretty cute on a guy. My guy’s is much longer and bushier than that. He used to keep a picture of various people such as Robert E Lee for beard inspiration, haha.
His looks more like this:
(not my SO, btw)

I wish! I have to beg my Darling Husband to grow a beard! I think he looks so sexy with it, but he also won’t let it get wild. He keeps it trim and neat all the time, and I think with all the maintenance, he isn’t a fan of having it all the time.

@juliette.eliza: Haha, good to know someone else knows what it’s like! See, I have told him I don’t like the way it feels when he tries to kiss me, but it doesn’t make him any more likely to shave it. Actually, yesterday he said those comments make him more determined to keep it longer (joking, I hope…!)

You know? When he is sleeping, try cutting off a section of the beard (with very sharp scissors so you can do it in one swoop) so it’s lopsided… he’ll have no choice but to at least trim it so it looks neat. HA!

@happyface: hmmm! not a bad idea

@happyface: As long as she can pull off this face while blaming the cat ->
My SO does this too, but only in the summer when he’s not at work (teacher). When it gets too bad he gets “beard fangs” and I tell him I’m not kissing him until they are removed. Its a little passive aggressive but he does usually trim it a bit then.

I used to hate any kind of facial hair. I hadn’t seen my SO in a while, and he walked in with a beard and my first thought was, “Damn, he’s still cute!” haha I was completely expecting to hate it. I prefer him clean shaven, and he knows it so he’s constantly asking me if he should shave. Stubble can be quite painful, but I’d never force him to shave unless we were meeting the Queen or something. haha

My fi has a goatee and mustache and long sideburns. He only shaves about once every two weeks so sometimes it gets out of control. I do gently point out when the facial hair needs a little “particle removal” but apart from that, it’s his face so I let him do what he wants. I do like kissing him better when it’s closer to stubble than to proper hedge, but I’d no sooner tell him how to wear his facial hair than I’d listen to him tell me how to wear my head-hair.
Around the house, there’s plenty of times when my hair would benefit from a quick brushing, just like his facial hair could benefit from a little brush-up, but I always manage to pull myself together before going anywhere, and I trust him to do the same.

@Helium: haha! My SO has fangs, too! his beard kind of splits down the center. It doesn’t help that sometimes he takes the two sides and intentionally separates them into these horn-like features. The patch of hair directly below his lip also tends to swoop up, because he tries to hold onto it with his lips sometimes… *facepalm*

More like I insist that he has a beard.
