I received something in the mail from Target the other day. It was a brochure/booklet/catalog about setting up a wedding registry with them. It said “Congratulations!” and offered me a $20 gift card if I set up a wedding registry.
Lol I found the whole thing to be pretty amusing. But I am wondering why they sent that to me. As far as I know, I don’t think I did anything wedding-related on their website.
Oh well, I’m not gonna worry about it. I just thought it was funny. Too bad I can’t use that $20 gift card though. SO has to propose first! :p

They do the same thing when they think someone is pregnant, Target actually found out a girl was pregnant before her father knew! It was all over the news:

Interesting marketing strategies they use huh?!

@EyeLoveKitties: Oh yeah, I remember that story! Didn’t Target find out that she was pregnant based on the girl’s shopping habits?
The weird thing is, I never go shopping at Target. I have browsed on their website but that’s about it. I’ve never actually bought anything online from them. And I rarely go shopping there in person.

Whoa. I just reread the article. Apparently they can get data on me just by me going to their website! AND by the things I discuss online! I bet they saw I visit Weddingbee a lot and that’s why they mailed me that catalog.
That is just freaky!

Yeah it’s super creepy. If it bothers you disabling your cookies will prevent a lot of this and wiping your history…

That’s creepy but sadly so common. I already hate that the ads I see online are all focused on keywords I use and sites I visit. Having such a tenuous connection as “visited your store’s site on the same day I was on Weddingbee” lead to mail is going too far. I didn’t read the whole article, but what is going through my mind is they have a program and connects my IP address and cookies with my physical address. I don’t like that.

Have you ever registered or given your address to a bridal expo? I started getting multiple target gift cards after one of those.
