So I woke up Friday with a mild amount of pain, which was good, because I was going to work from home anyway. Weeellll….two hours later Fiance is driving me to the ER as I am in agonizing pain and feel like dying. Some morphine and CAT scans later, the Dr. tells me my appendix is inflamed, infected and I need to go into emergency surgery. Suffice it to say surgery went well, and I am now resting until I feel better to go back to work.
Has anyone else had to have their appendix out?

I am sorry you had to go through this. Mine ruptured years ago, and I had to have emergency surgery. Make sure to keep an eye on your stitches. Mine got infected, so I had to take antibiotices, after the fact.

Thanks for the advice! They actually didn’t use stiches, they used dermabond and apparently only made one incision in my belly button. I cant/refuse to look at it, because it is gross to me, but my family is keeping an eye out for me.

I had my appendix out a couple of years ago. Definitely take it easy when you get home. Go really slow with foods and get lots of sleep. After I got home I kept throwing up and ended up getting a bowel obstruction so I didn’t get better for awhile. When I eventually went back to work (I was a waitress) I kept getting lightheaded and had to sit down. Feel better soon!!!

Oh my! I’m glad that you are okay, that can be pretty serious if they don’t catch it soon enough.

I had mine out two years ago. The anestesia really messed with my system, and I hated staying in the hospital -just one night, but it was horrible. It was a fairly quick recovery though, I think I was back at work in five days. They did my appendectomy laproscopically, and I hate the scar at my belly button! Boo. Hope you feel better soon!

I had my appendix out my junior year of college 6 years ago (wow time flies)… i thought the pain was just mcdonalds hangover and tried to drive to the NFG/green day concert in NJ, I wound up spending the entire concert in the medical area
take it easy but pay attention to your body… my doctor was surprised i recovered so fast (got it out on a sunday in my hometown, was back upstate @ college by that thursday)… i just couldnt lift heavy things… but definitely participated in the weekend activities with my friends!
hope you feel better soon!

Same here, Missbliss–had an emergency appendectomy at age 9 and then, because it got infected and healed incorrectly, I had to have an abdominal scar revision at age 20…big scar here :/
Get well soon!

Obviously I’m a little late, but you might get a kick out of my story.
I had terrible back pain and stomach pain for 2 days before I went to the ER, and when I finally did they weren’t 100% sure it WAS my appendix. They offered to do a scan (that would take 2 days at LEAST to come back) or to just operate on the assumption that is was my appendix, and deal with it once I was, uh, cut open.
Basically, while I was at the hospital waiting for the surgery (overnight) my appendix ruptured and I am very lucky to be alive! Another 12 hours and.. well, yeah. I then got stuck in the hospital for a week because I had a fever and they needed to monitor me. When I first got home I was SO excited to sleep in my bed, so I curled up for the night and had the best sleep ever! Unfortunately I hadn’t accounted for not being to bend at the waist, and in the morning I woke up and couldn’t get out of bed! .. After that I spent a few nights sleeping in a lazy boy, haha.
